Dyno numbers inside: stock intake vs. J's
Big thanks goes out to Slowmotion Motorsports out of Columbus, Ohio
Just got back from getting a base line pull on my car and while i was at it I decided to throw a J's on there just to see what the difference would be. Ill let the graph show the rest. It was done on a Dynapack.
Mods are: JDM DC 4-1, Type One b pipe, and a Spoon N1 axle back, 96k on the motor. No tuning, stock ECU, stock timing.
Solid line is the J's, dashed line is the stock
a random shot of my car on the dyno

I wonder if the fake j's racing intake works the same. Not that I want the fake one but why not, if its cheaper and works the same

I dont get it, looks as if the dashed line is lower than the solid line, which would indicate a lose in power, yet the graph tells us there is a 10hp increase. care to clarify ?

No it looks like he GAINED some lowend torque. The SOLID line is the J's intake and the dashed line is stock.

thanks for posting your results man, do you use the car every day or is it solely for the track, personally i gave up using open filters because the car kinda bogged every time i stopped at lights but i have friends who swear by them
every man to his own

thanks for posting your dyno sheet. Nice gain over stock. Does any one have any dynos of the j's vs the AEM cai?

Pretty much the same resonance's that I found. ~5500rpms and ~8000rpms. If you use a consistant filter, the ony real 'gains' an intake arm will provide are resonance frequencies. Colder air also plays a role in real-world power gains, which is why intakes like the Mugen and Comptech Icebox generally feel better, but lack the dyno numbers to back them up.

Look below 2500, he lost about 10 ft/lbs but above 3000 he gained 10 ft/lbs over stock.

Re: Dyno numbers inside: stock intake vs. J's (ebelp)
The J's that I dynoed was the one I originally had on my car a couple years back, I sold it so I can just run my stock intake. I believe that I could acheive the same amount of power as the J's with a K&N drop in filter as you see that the stock intake pretty much holds its own until around 6500ish.
If there was a password intake laying around his shop I would have thrown it on as well but there wasnt
If there are anymore questions I would be glad to answer them.

damn.. at least it's better than stock ..
i have one and i always thought it lost power... at least compared to aem cai.
then i made my DIY velocity stack with aem short arm.. and that.. feels better than all of them

true, but that doesn't really matter anyway. who needs power below 3k, when you launch at 4k and the lowest you'll be when racing is 5k..?

AEM CAI (B16a spec, ~2.5" diameter iirc) vs. PWJDM whale **** intake (carbon copy of the J's...no pun intended)
AEM Hybrid CAI (uses same diameter as their ITR pipe, 3") vs. PWJDM whale **** intake (carbon copy of the J's...no pun intended)
I'm sure the J's (and J's style) intakes make gains over stock. But both sizes of the AEM CAI made better power than the phallic intake across the entire rpm band after 4,000 rpms.
Engine: stock B20z block, Complete ITR head (including IM + TB), vtec X-over at 4.5k
Exhaust: 4-1 JDM DC, 2.5" Carsound cat, 2.5" kteller catback

blue teg thank you for posting that comparison that was very helpful to me. I'm definitely keeping my aem cai what is the AEM Hybrid CAI?
