this should tell you guys enough about it if you want more pictures of this block or bolts stripped i got supply them. you guys tell me what you think about this all was properly speced out i can actually supply you guys with numbers of what came out of this block after the 625miles of failure. now i dont want to shoot his reputation totally down if he buys it and holds up to his reputation and is responsible about it. If not well then you know do what you think is right i paid 3300$ for this bottom end. there is also problems with my cylinder head one of the exhaust valves doesnt seat. also my head is milled .008 cocked from cylinder 1 to 4... and not angled. so you tell me what you think.

why's it show that it was bought by "Fullybuiltmotorsports" for $400?

I think that was the most incompetent explanation of a problem I have ever read. I don't know how anyone could understand what you wrote.

if you had looked on here before you bought you probably would have found a number of negative things about him. I don't know him but I guess the negative stuff I read isn't all that far from the truth.

mark bought a ported GSR head from DHracing on Ebay. he then sent his 99 GSR block for sleeving, pistons, rods and assembly. it was sent back as a low compression 85 x 87 motor for turbo.

the motor went together and was driven for a 700 mile breakin period with stock cams, stock ecu and some bolt ons. it died while driving and compression checks revealed between 0 and 90 PSI in every cylinder.

the head cam off. i went down, we poured alcohol with green food color into the ports one side at a time. one of the exhaust valves dumped it right out. there was no sign of piston to valve or valve to valve contact. improper valve job is my diagnosis.

huge scores could be seen going up and down the entire bore, right up past the top ring's path. another was going half way around the circumference of one bore about 2" from the deck. my guess is these scores were from a flycutter or other type of boring head that was stopped in mid operation. the long ones might be from the cutter being lifted out of the bore without the mill's table being moved slightly prior to removal. basically something hard and sharp dragged up every bore in this kids motor. i could not see any hone marks whatsoever. it also looked like the ring gaps were leaving scoring as well. every cylinder.

the head and block milling texture was very very ridgy, the roughest ive ever seen. multi layer steel gaskets like OEM and cometic require nearly mirror finishes, so that wasnt helping.

mark pulled the motor. i brought all my indicators and gauges down. all of the rod bolts came out fine but one. it was hard as a rock threading in and out. it left all of its threads inside the rod, ruining that rod. they were ARP bolts, whether crossthreaded or defective i do not know. then one of the mainbolts in the block did the same thing on the #4 journal. threads came out of the block. in an AIM conversation hickman said he would retap it. upon explaining that you dont add material by tapping, he claimed to be a welder by trade and said he would fill/drill and retap the hole. i had to inform him that the mains would warp and sleeves be disturbed, so the block was still junk. it just shows what his solutions are. i suspect an impact gun may have been the cause, as i cant imagine an experienced engine builder forcing 2 of 18 bolts in like this thinking it was ok.

i measured the bores with a mitutoyo dial bore gage and a .0001 browne and sharpe micrometer. every one was a different size. the straightest bore had .0008" taper, the worst had .0035" ... not a typo, nearly .004" variance in ONE CYLINDER. all of the thrust axis's of the each cylinder were scuffed. a look at the inconsistent scuffing shows just how different every bore was sized. the pistons were all within .0002" of each other and all but one have scuffed skirts to the degree i wouldnt reuse. piston to wall clearance ranged from about .003-.005" and the pistons, i assume, are forged aluminum. apparently they are DHR spec units, ive never seen them prior. the ring gaps top and middle ranged from .028 to .032. quite a bit.

the honing job was visible at the bottom of the cylinder where the rings hadnt worn it off. i firmly believe it was done by hand with a flex hone and dwelled for waaaay too long (not stroked up and down fast enough.) a rigid honing machine would not have left the bores as hourglassed as they were and would have had a consistent 60degree crosshatch if the operator had set up the pulleys properly for the given bore diameter and height. this crosshatch barely crossed, it was like a 10 degree. when you look at a ported head, that nice 120 grit finish all in one direction, thats what the honing looked like below the ring line. where the rings had ridden i could not see any honing marks. just shine like a 200k mile motor.

ontop of the bad valve, i measured the head from end to end (cam gear to distributor) and found it was milled .008" crooked meaning one side is thicker than the other. he claimed this was "angle milling" and is a performance trick. well, he angle milled it the wrong direction. the head was $1400 if i recall what i was told. he also said that other shops often mess up as much as .020 and that factory honda heads vary alot. factory honda machining is some of the best in the world. .002" variance in OEM would be a ton IMO.

mark paid $3300 for the bottom end and its junk. through AIM, he has been asking mr hickman for a stock empty block back in trade for this sleeved one and nothing more. Mr hickman has done nothing but beat around the bush for about 3 weeks now and accuse mark of being responsible because it was "run lean" (DHR has elaborate stories about how 14:1 is lean and 13:1 is stoich then gives history lessons about who invented the term stoich and so on.) when cornered with undeniable facts he changes the subject into how many 11 second motors he has built and how one of his motors just won NHRA recently. very impressive work indeed. he constantly cuts and pastes some legal jargon about internet slander and threatens to sue, claiming that he has informed a las vegas law firm about mark's slanderous activities towards him (apparently application for warrantee is slanderous to Mr Hickman.) he never mentions a specific las vegas law firm and clams up quickly when asked to have the attorney forward written notice to mark's address. he is rather rude, accusing and even tried pulling a threat saying "i dont F* around..." and something about smith and wesson, but spelled it wrong (smith and wission.) then when asked if he had just made a written threat, claimed that was the brand of his milling machine, though i have not been able to find any manufacture other than smith and wesson (which happens to be where my brother and father are employed, ironically.)

several times mr hickman has told mark differing stories about having gotten a replacement, having a replacement on the way, im sending it out soon, send yours in etc.. but.. nothing ever happens and he goes back to saying he hasnt found one.
when informed of these measurements that were photographed and witnessed by 6 people he gave in once more and urged mark to send the block. then defended himself by saying a "reputable nascar shop, koher racing" did the bottom end. we asked who did the head milling he said he did then described the custom 13 inch flycutter he uses. a walk out to the garage revealed a 13" radius on the block and head. nascar shops arent capable of doing work this bad. my point is, it was a blatant lie. like a lot of other things he claimed. all conversations over AIM have been saved and printed, ive read them all and stood there for one of them after i did all the measuring. i am a machinist by trade and engine builder by hobby.

i am typing all of this out because another GSR block is junk. that means each of you has to pay more for the available supply now. dont let people like this butcher the last of our B series motors. Mark was so excited after having sunk about 12,000 into his car to finally have it back together and have a fast car. this was his first build and he was naive enough to listen to the first person who came along. now Mr Hickman is threatening to sue him for slanderous damages. dont you think it should be the other way around? $4700 for 650 miles? mark is buried in debt to own this and now needs another motor for a car hes making payments on while it sits on jackstands.

keep hiding behind your legal threats DHR. is it slanderous to report the truth? somehow i dont think you have as much of a case as mark does. and for christs sake, the stoichiometric air fuel ratio for gasoline is approximately 14.7:1, get it right.

the purpose of the auction was for DHR to buy it back under a written contract. no one trusts him. the person who bought it is supposedly a friend of DHR so clearly, the plan worked. i have about 40 photos for any doubters. we can bring it to Tbone right down the street if anyone wants a trustworthy third party.

holy **** CPTengineer. thats the most generous, thoughtful offer i have ever seen in my life. i cant say yes or no on marks behalf but thats what we were gonna try to do. whip up an 81x89 LS vtec using OEM parts and some cleanup work to the DHR head just to get marks car back on the road so he can have some fun before the snow. try out the quaiffe i put in his trans and maybe try to make 200whp the "goal on a budget"

seriously dude. thats awesome even just to offer it. i greatly greatly appreciate the generosity.

( or zip tie) his *** to a chair and call him.He said he was in Calif. somewhere.
But you never know who you might see at the races. People always go "Hey there is so-n-so.And then ya got em.LOL

Sorry im not the healthiest of writers just so stressed of loosing alot of money. Dave H. did want me to send my block i just couldnt trust that i would get one in return but when i listed this 15 minutes later his friend ( i think josh?) bought it. anyway last night he was offering me all sorts of things i think he maybe got wind that i mean bussiness. Mike i owe you for your lawyer like explaination everything was in order I dont think i can add anything. I do know he was being more respectful last night than he ever was i will tell you that...guys on HT are good guys ... i guess if i explain myself enough .. i got practically a lawyer thanx again mike.

whoops .. he made me offers but non of which went along with the original deal. he was showing me ebay auctions of other peoples motors for me to buy. i told him i was not interested i will have to find it on my own i guess. ( original offer was for me to send block aka list mine on ebay, when he gets his list his on ebay) so there would be a paper trail for the both of us.

this should tell you guys enough about it if you want more pictures of this block or bolts stripped i got supply them. you guys tell me what you think about this all was properly speced out i can actually supply you guys with numbers of what came out of this block after the 625miles of failure. now i dont want to shoot his reputation totally down if he buys it and holds up to his reputation and is responsible about it. If not well then you know do what you think is right i paid 3300$ for this bottom end. there is also problems with my cylinder head one of the exhaust valves doesnt seat. also my head is milled .008 cocked from cylinder 1 to 4... and not angled. so you tell me what you think.

Let me get this straight and correct me if I read this wrong. You tuned a BUILT MOTOR THAT WAS TURBOCHARGED?!?!?! To run on 14.7:1 AIR/FUEL!?!!?! EVERYONE BE SURE TO LOOK RIGHT IN THE AUCTION I JUST SAW TO SEE THAT IS SAYS 14.7:1 Stoich HE RAN THE MOTOR ON.

Running the motor this lean is a guaranteed time bomb waiting to happen, pump gas Im probably guessing as well. Melting a piston was inevitable

You've got to be kidding me. No wonder the motor came apart. Im not defending anyone because what's in the past may be wrong, but facts are facts, and there is no way you should have ever had the AIR/FUEL sitting that high. That is extremely lean. You basically just explained to everyone that you have a very small knowledge on tuning and racing.

Didn't I just go to event in Ohio, and see one of his cars run 11.8 with a similar setup that was all motor and WON???

Something tells me this was not the engine builder, but a mere ignorance on the tuner/owner of the car.

Good luck on your next blown paycheck, better realize, and do some research maybe try 11.9:1-12.5:1 on tuning, your motor might stay together.

Reading is fundamental.

1. He bought the built motor for turbo.

2. He broke the motor in allmotor.

3. The motor broke before it ever even made it 500 miles.

4.
