SSAutochrome 1mil+1, B16 Civic 0
What's missing in this picture?
Hey, that's right - a formerly-mint Tial wastegate:
(previous engine bay shot)
My buddy Dave (importelegente) was driving back from Chicago when he said he bottomed out while racing/losing to a Geo Storm ( j/k on racing). Downpipe pushed the motor up, gravity maintained hold on the wastegate. Ripped the paper-thin (18 guage?!) "will not crack" stainless weld all to hell. Wastegate dropped to ground and managed to take the oil pan with it in the form of a good-sized hole. This was supposedly the newer manifold with 2 braces. I'm not a welder, but I think they may need more than just braces. Previous owner said it work fine for long time, but this is my experience with SSac/XSpower items so far.
Car was fast before said transaction with asphault, now it's just a loud jdm-mobile with vtec and a slight oil consumtion problem (due to hole).
Cliffnotes:
SSautochrome=bad
Wastegate tube's weld broke, [$50+$75] in wastegate damage, hole in oil pan.
Good news is I found an eager buyer for my BMCrace manifold

Buying SSAC is like the village idiot screwing the town ***** that has VD. Everybody knows not to touch it but there is always one who does it anyway.
Not calling your friend an idiot by no means, just making a comparison. I can't believe SSAC is still in business with such a bad rep.

bandwagoners...
if your friend wouldn;t have bottomed out, then nothing would have broken.
anything could have broken whether it be a cheap manifold with a bad rep or an expensive one.
im assuming the car has a ricer 3'' drop due to how close the grass looks to the bottom of the car in the first picture.

Haha.....thats exactly what i noticed too. I was trying to figure out why the grass look so damn close to the engine......almost looks like an illusion.

Why dont you keep your ****** *** comments to yourself the car isnt even droped 2 inches and actually i didnt buy the manifold it was on the car when i had traded my 95 jdm converted Gsr, I had plans to change it in the first place just not this soon. No i wouldnt buy one. In my favor i can replace the covers on my wg for 120, oil pan 35, a BMC manifold, and modify the dt. I guess everyone is just a genus when they see a picture. I have seen all of those threads by the way - just another plaqe on the wall for ssautochrome. Ive also herd they insult there buyers. Im not an idiot, this is my car, and the only reason that bothers me is it ripped up my nice clean tial h

Re: (importelegente)
I always forget the important stuff in my posts, I forget things can be missed by the masses If you look at the SSauto wg tube and the bmcrace tube, you'll see what I mean. I couldn't snap the bmc tube off with a 10' pole worth of leverage. With the ssauto, a ball-peen hammer would suffice. Basicly the info I was trying to relay is this: If you have an SSautocrap mani for any reason, brace the WG tube ASAP.
If you click on the "Car was fast" link, you'll see it was bought fab'd by another HT member. First time I talked to Dave about it he was talking full-race or love-fab. I think the log will work better, since a b16 can always use a bit more bottom/mid-range.
Maybe some of you should come driving in Wisconsin, seriously. We get the full range of weather - its been 90+ for the past 2 weeks, very humid (Lake Michigan and we're surrounded by small lakes) and in winter we get temps below zero frequently. Meaning - expansion joints own us, they contract-freeze-pop and get ripped open by plows in winter, and expand-bind-pop in summer. And the idiot road crews just make them worse.

LoL...
I have a Drag manifold and I put that thing through tons of abuse on bad roads and low profile tires... but it hasn't cracked yet.
There's no way you can say that ANY manifold would have cracked from that. It's simply not true.
It's not a bandwagon, SSAutoChrome sucks *****... and that's a fact. Just because people are starting to realize this doesn't mean it's a bandwagon.

I will agree. The wastegate hole/flange is a terrible design. What's worse is that even though SSAC is now making the manifolds with thicker steel, they still haven't fixed the wastegate.
BTW, if it were me, after all the threads about wastegates falling off, I would have secured mine to the engine with some wire or something.

Re: SSAutochrome 1mil+1, B16 Civic 0 (HiProfile)
I have to respond to this one because I think you guys are all wrong...
I purchased one last year without doing any research. It just looked good and I bought it-THE SHAME I FEEL!
I feel like it has made me a better person by teaching me patience and humility. Let me explain: one could enjoy the evening with his family-quality time and all of that or, one could remove his or her cracked manifold and spend a few hours re-welding it and getting the car drivable so as to get to work the next day. Nothing like the smell of mig welding at mid-night.
I learned humility after it cracked about the third time and I called ssautoCRAP to explain my dilema. Their "Quality" department explianed that their products are top quality and must have been something I did that caused it..."besides we can't warranty it if you welded it". Now I know it is all my fault and they are great people-just misunderstood by all of us trouble makers who, are trying to ruin their flawless reputation...
Now on to the technical: it has been said any tubular manifold will crack if not braced and a flexjoint is not used. Mine had both and the reason I welded it so many times (I can't count that high without a calculator) is not to have to re-make the downpipe and intercooler piping etc...I could have built two kits in the time I have wasted repairing this piece of trash.
My RevHard manifold will arrive today and I think I will keep the ssautoCRAP manifold as a reminder of how much it has made a better person. You know what they say when you really screw up: "It was a learning experience"

what do you mean its not cause of the manifold - keep your comment and keep moving ill have pics of my new setup in a couple days - Had to cut and reweld dp and make a new dt - btw i dont know if it botomed out or hit something on the freeway. i was driving from chi to milwaukee when it happened - there is a significant dent on the dump tube but it sat at the same height as my oil pan which is fucked up too. Those manifolds blow. I have to make a bold statement that every single person on h-t has a strong opinion on every single topic even when they dont necessarily know what there talking about or know what they are doing in general. maybe even with there own life the manifold was braced and if anyone wants it its yours 20 buck and ill even buy ya a ***** so you really get a dickin your *** when you use it - ssautcrap didnt return my emails so how did u get a hold of them

Re: (importelegente)
I pretended to buy something to get their number and then went about it that way. I do not currently have it anymore (I just don't think I like them anymore and I don't want to play with them anymore at recess).
I will try and get it again but I do remember it was difficult last time...It seems as though they do not want to talk to anyone.
