Oil feed line AN/NPT connectors question
I picked up some -3 hose and -3 to 1/8" Aeroquip fittings last week and today I was trying to put everything together. I took apart the brass T's etc that were all on my block and started to reassemble things but it seemed like the Aeroquip fittings didn't want to thread in very easily.
The original parts were all 1/8" tapered threads but the new Aeroquip parts seem to be straight 1/8". I can only turn them two full rotations before they get tight. Is this okay? I plan to use plenty of teflon I can post a pic if someone wants, here's just the part by itself:
Also, do i need teflon on the connection between the stainless line and that fitting? I was going to put some on there but the importparts.com instructions say not to???

Re: Oil feed line AN/NPT connectors question (Xerxes)
Some 1/8"npt threads are actually cut bigger than some FPTs. I encounter this all the time with brass fittings. Maybe go to the home depot and test fit your fitting on some FPT nipples and stuff. A tapered thread will almost always stop when there is still thread left (visible). A straight cut thread will go all the way until the bottom of the fitting binds it. I don't reccomend too much tef tape, 2 good passes should suffice. Does the fitting stop so early if you thread it in without teflon?
Don't use teflon on the flare/AN side....

my earls fittings 1/8npt also don't thread very far in my 1/8 T.
the AN threads go in just fine. I use liquid teflon on the pipe thread and have no leaks at all. The AN fittings don't need a thread sealant since they are a compression fitting.

Re: Oil feed line AN/NPT connectors question (GruvyTune)
thanks for the responses
okay now i have a 1/8" NPT female/female adapter (earl's) that i just picked up; my aeroquip AN/NPT adapter will only thread into that about 1.5 turns before it starts getting tight (this is with no teflon). Will this be strong enough or should i try to find a tapered AN/NPT adapter?
I wonder if they'll let me get a refund

Re: Oil feed line AN/NPT connectors question (dustin)
NPT is always tapered... but I find that some are just larger than others....
