Default Sunroof switch sticking.

Whenever I go to open my sunroof it moves an inch then stops. It takes a couple of tries but finally open all of the way. I remember seeing a write up on how to fix the switch somewhere but can't find it. Does anyone have this info??

Thanks.

it's the cables or the tracks, try lubing the exposed track and if u remove the headliner u could check the cables

that is, if it's not the switch shorting (would happen throughout the motion randomly) where the above would happen at the same point nearly every time.

edit...lol need to read more 8o, test the switch w/ a dc meter

I had same problem with my crx sunroof. I opened my switch and didnt properly inpsect it. It was my switch and I thought it wouldnt be that, but it was. So I though I would write-up how to clean it out!

Sorry for blurry pics.

This is for a 91 Crx Sunroof switch.

These are the only tools I used, but feel free to use whatever.

1) Insert whatever tool you want and take the metal pin out.

2)Take of the button and make sure you have 3 plastic pushers with 3 springs behind them.

3)Take the 2 pressure plates out and clean them off as best as you can. (look how dirty contacts can get)

4)Look for the contact points inside the switch itself. There are 4 of them. Also look for the contact points on the back of the pressure plates as well. Now take your tool (I used alan key) and scrape off any extra crap that is left on that couldnt get wiped off. Dont push TOO hard, just a scrape GENTLY enough to get the gunk off. You should be able to see a nice silver.

Pressure plates from dirty to clean.

4 Contact points on switch cleaned up.

5) Start to re-assemble by lining up the pressure plates with the slits on the plates themselves and reinsert them into the switch with the metal guide pieces provided in the switch.

6) Make sure all your plastic pieces and springs are in the right place (2 Larger pieces on each side then smaller one in the middle)

7)Place metal pin back in and test it and make sure it feels right with the switch clicking once each time you push it either way.

And youre done!

Let me know if it helped!

i had the same problem on all my crx's, did the same thing.

damn that's a lot of pics for such an easy task. nice writeup.

the hardest part was taking the outer switch box halves apart without breaking the tabs- super easy fix.

- only thing i'd add is to use some dielectric grease on all of the contacts to keep it from happening again, since you'll prolly scrape most of the plating off.

lubing your tracks wont hurt either if you have never done it, but the original poster's problem is most definately electical

Mine does that crap too. It goes about and inch then stops. Damn it would be nice to fix it for the summer. Does anybody know how much a new switch is from the dealer? I'm not positive that it's not the rails or anything because i recently got the car but it seems to have the same symptoms as the first post.

seriously man, fix it like was posted earlier. it will take you less time than it will to call the dealer and order a new one...

and it's free.

LOL. It was truly an easy task but the main reason I did it is to help out. The reason I "overlooked" the problem in my switch is because no one would care to explain where the contacts where or anything, and I had always figured they meant the contacts that are on the back of the PLUG side of the switch. I didnt think to look under the pressure plates or anything because no one told me what would happen if I took it apart! I evantually found out by myself and was brave enought to take apart my older switch. lol(The pics above are of my crappier switch from an older ef.) I acctually lost the parts to this one and eventually found them after a looooong search.

So im glad that I posted this up. Maybe someone wont make the same mistake I did of overlooking.

yea, there's never too many pics for a how-to. Now lubing the tracks - is it as easy as it sounds? Open, lube, close?

I wiped all the old lube off as best as I could before re-lubing.

If you want to get uber technical, ill post up the "how to" on taking a sunroof out and it tells how you can take the tracks off there, but I think what you and me said will suffice.

freakie

just be sure to test the switch if your not sure, u are loosing contact and not getting voltage out of the switch. so u could put the meter on the contact and watch for the voltage to bounce or fall off, if that were the case then i would bust open the switch. btw, they go for hella cheap on ebizzel (used)

i cleaned out the tracks and used a ::little:: grease at the front and let closing it drag it through the tracks. just don't get crazy and make a mess and you will be fine.

If it's the same switch as used on a 90 Si,... I got one if that doesn't fix it.

Mine use to stick too, but my sunroof track was broken all together. I also realized that my relay(realy and switch are one in the same) was broken also so that helped a lot

had to revive this old post.

Do you have to remove the lower dash panel to remove the sunroof switch???
I got the plug un-hooked from the back of it but don't know how to get the sunroof switch out. I'm assuming you push from the back - and I have but don't want to break anything...

Just push it from the back, make sure you do it from the center.

pushin and pushin...that **** won't budge. the space to the right of it has clips...the sunroof switch doesn't have any clips? Just remove fuze panel cover, unplug sunroof switch and push from behind>? so simple and i can't even do it...i think i should contemplate suicide
