Default Valve Cover Venting

Im not sure if im in the right place but if im not sorry, just like the topic says valve cover venting i am curios about this and what is the purpose, im not a noob but ive never heard of this before. I am just wondering why is this done, and is it the same a doing a catch can.

to release excesses pressure in your engine......sometimes that one tiny hole on the cover is not enough....

cars come stock with pumps to remove crank pressure (i dont think hondas do though) lots of cars run set-ups to remove crank pressure. i dont know how most people on here do it, but from what i've been told people fab up mounts for a pump, run it to the exaust so the exaust provides a suction. (this is what i was told so im not backing all of this 100%, but 99% haha)

a shop i know gained 13 whp on there all motor race car buy routing two hoses from the valve cover strait to the exhaust. anyone know of a good pump that might provide more suction? honestly i dont think any pukmp could suck harder then a motor pulling to 10 grand but you dont really want to suck that air back into your motor

i see a lot of motors with 2 lines coming out of the front near the headers but i never knew why they did that

no its run to two bungs on the header and sucked out by the exhaust flow current. the way it works is the gases pass by the open hole so fast it creates a natural vacuum sucking it into the exhaust and out the muffler.

thats very interesting and makes sense but at the same time it seems that the vacuum will also suck up some oil, no? maybe not that much oil.

at most it will suck out oil vapor but no more then the spout coming out of your valve cover going to your manifold anyway. if your that concerned about it i guess putting a oil seperator between it wouldnt be that hard but not worth the trouble

most nissan engines have these - they are called crank case breathers - usually a pipe routed from the valve cover into the intake or just a small crankcase air filter they have no problems with it - the filters there for obvious reasons. actually to be honest most people dont bother with it on nissans - one of my friends just put a panty hose on his nissans crank case breather hole

yes we no that you can just leave it be, but the idea here is to make more power but getting rid of as much of it as possible. the relief of pressure lets the crank and rotating assymbly move quicker and safer making that extra few horsepower.

Is there a baffle on the inside of the cover for the hoses on the front of the cover? What stops oil spray from coming out there into the header? Would this help on a lightly modded motor(like just head work)?

the odds of any oil getting pumped out is slim to none.

1.) because oil never fills the head since gravity pulls it back down almost immediately after its lubbed the cams and valve train.

2.) if you where spraying out vast amounts of oil then it would be coming out of your breather valve going to the intake manifold.

honda intended for the pcv to function by allowing fresh air to enter the crankcase through the valve cover grommet connected to the intake. Dasher's thread shows that it doesn't exactly do that at all engine loads or rpm levels.
