Default question on oil pan

my buddy is putting a greddy turbo kit in his 2000 civic ex. there are two choices for the oil line. bolt it in after drilling a 15mm hole or welding it. which is better? i know honda pans are thin, so would welding it distort and create a weak spot? by that logic, would bolting it in do the same? figured you guys would know. ask a honda question, ask a honda guy
thanks!

welding it would be my first choice, bolting it on with a modified AN bulkhead + hondabond would be my second. On my oil pans I've had them welded and it never gave me any problems.

No even messy. Just drain the oil first.

do you have to replace the oil pan gasket after you remove it?

It depends on the condition of the gasket. if its dried up then time to replace it. otherwise it should be okay.

If you drain the oil it takes away the challenge!!! Ya dude replace that pan gasket while you are there. Don't smear it with silicone either. Just make sure the pan and block surfaces are totally clean of oil (brake clean works great) and don't overtighten pan bolts.

question ... what kinda welding do you guys use on your oilpans ? MIG or TIG ? also ART with the brass fitting that you use from home depot, will that work with a mIG welder on the honda oilpan ? will it not melt etcc? thanks

mig will work. but remember we arent talking about welding those brass fittings to the oil pan. that is impossible. we are talking about welding steel -10 AN bungs.

I was told the MIG will not work with the 2000 EX oil pan, because it is aluminum. so in my case I had to find someone with a TIG.
