Dyno results J's racing Intake vs. AEM CAI on my ITR! J's intake racing all hype?
I posted it in another thread but, Ill put the results here for you guys.
the setup is a '00 JDM ITR wit a 1 piece head gasket, ARP headstuds, Buddy Club spec 4's,CTR N-1 Pulley, Portflow springs and retainers. The tranny is '00 Spoon ITR tranny with a 4.9 ATS final. Excedy thin sprung 6 puck and chromoly flywheel.
All tuned with a Hondata stage 2
The red line is the J's and the green line is the AEM
I coulda easily made more (2-3hp) too if I woulda added fuel above 8200 -8900rpm. The wide band showed it was way too lean. Shaun offered to tune it to the AEM but since I dont own one I left it tuned to the J's It also had the same result on my friends ITR, exactly 12 HP gain vs his ITR airbox and spoon filter. Believe me I was very disapointed, I just recieved the intake the day before from Mike at IPS and it cost me my left nut. Shaun Church said he gets the exact same result from evey J's style intake he dynos compared to the AEM. Granted the J's looks 10x better than the AEM but the graph tells a different story.

So you had the ITR 3" AEM cold air right, did you have a fan blowing on it? where was it placed, was the AEM benefiting more than the J's, these are all very important questions.

so whats the scientific reasoning that the AEM made more power than the J's?

if your asking me, I have no F'ing idea. i had just bought the J's for $290 and just borrowed the AEM for the final run.

Yeah you could do that, I guess it might be a little unfair to compare the 2 since both are designed with different functionalities in mind. What kind of filter does the J's intake use, maybe you should have tried both without an air filter on and see what it do?

the main concept behind a j's racing intake is throttle response... it's made for raod racing .. where throttle response is so much needed

These intakes are totally different though, short ram vs CAI. Even if the fan is blowing that really doesn't do that much to begin with especailly for a intake.

I noticed similar results on my car. Below 4,000 rpm the J's really excells, and you can feel it when you drive the car; the "throttle response" that many rave about. Up top the AEM and the velocity stack style intakes both beat the J's pretty handily.

interesting, i always thought a short ram outperformed a CAI! But I guess there are many factors that would affect the results of either.

Have you been talking to Kengs??? Last week I made a velocity stack at work for my J's style intake.
Some eye candy

Re: (MadtownSi)
I'd like to see some dyno numbers to see if that improves at all. That looks very similair to my Mugen velocity stack. The last time I dyno'd my car we disconnect the Mugen intake and ran open TB. It basically lost around 10whp across the board by doing this.

Re: (Fat Bradstard)
my results were different when dynoed back to back my aem cai vs a js style intake on my 22 motor (aem cai is blue, js style rai is red) . js style intake gave me about 5 more hp in mid range and 7 more trq in midrange and 2 hp up top
ps i only have a mild set up i/h/e 2.5 inch piping
