98 civci ex manual (2 wire IACV)
problem-
when i plug my new chipped obd1 ecu up, immediate CEL 14
and as im pulling up in speed, at 1500 rpms the car bounce erattically till the rpms get higher (really bad at take off in 1st gear).
using a chip thats a base p28 that does work in other cars

please help on this; this is my only management keeping me from boosting

Aren't OBD1 civic's 3 wire on the IACV? Maybe that's the issue and if so I wouldn't know how to help you out. Someone will chime in with some good info for you

Do you notice the car smoking or anything when its bouncing terribly @ 1500rpms?

What conversion harness and ecu are you running? Who did it?

smoked some at 1500 only when the obd1 ecu was in and the CEL(#14) was on
got my stuff from EcuHacker.com
i wonder if a bad burn could cause this?

Chances are your IACV wire is at the wrong pin on the OBD2 side of your adapter.

You need a wire from the OBD1 plug A, pin 9 to OBD2A plug A, pin 14. Currently, I think you'll find that that wire goes from OBD1 A9 to OBD2A A12. Most adapters are built with a wire from OBD1 A9 to both OBD2A A12 and A14. Sounds like your adapter builder missed that part.

well when i look at A14 on my factory harness...there is no wire in there...there is a black/blue wire going into A12
help me understand this since if i move the conversion harness pin to A14 from A12 it will not connect to anything
again, mine is a manual 98 ex vtec
there is only one wire in the 3 holes that are for the IACV (blue/black)

if you have access to a HELMs manual, you can trace teh circuit and make sure you have the right wires coming out of the correct socket.

I had the exact same problem when I swapped an EG a few years back. I checked everything and it was right, but I finally figured out that one of the wires had slightly pulled out of the connector at the sensor. pushed it back in and it ran smooth like butta.

so im assuming that the wire for the IACV coming out of the ECU goes to another harness or two before going to the actual IACV plug which is a 2-wire.
am i correct at assuming and we all know what happens when you assume; *** (outta) u (and) me

Does your adapter have a wire from OBD1 A9 to OBD2A A12?

yeah...sure does
then to the blue/black wire on the OBD2 side
also remember that i do not have the problem with my OBD2 ecu plugged in

There has to be some sort of problem with either the harness construction or the ECU if your car works fine with your stock ECU, but doesn't work with the OBD1 conversion. I can't comment any further without having the harness sitting here in my hands.

Give the wire connected at A12 on your harness a little tug to see if the solder joint is still intact.

i can figure this out at all.....im gonna try it on another car and see if i get the same results
