My tranny went out?
I was driving down the interstate, going about 75mph and all of the sudden my rpm's rev up really high. So I let off the gas and then pressed it again and it did the same thing. So I pushed the clutch in and put it into another gear and then tried it and it did the same thing. So I went ahead and started shifting through all of the gears without the clutch pushed in and it didn't do anything. The only thing it did was if I had it in gear and pressed the gas, the speedometer would go up. I replaced the clutch and It is still doing the same exact thing but the speedo doesn't move now. What could this be and how can I get it fixedd?

My friend and I did the clutch install with instructions from c-speedracing.com. I also noticed when the car is just idleing there is a faint grinding noise. But when the car is idleing and I press the clutch in, the noise goes away.

that scratchin noise is because you didn't install your throwout bearing right on the clutch u installed. i had the same problem with my gs-r but then i fixed it and the noise went away. does it get louder when you drive?

If you depress the clutch and the noise goes away then its your tranny bearings. Usually if the throw out bearing is bad it makes noise when you depress the clutch. When you and your friend installed the tranny did you line it up properly with the transmission shaft?

What is it that you got? I am trying to figure out what the problem is so I can get it fixed. I can't get it fixed if I don't know what it is. Thank you.

When the car was still driving there was a grinding noise that sounded like it was coming from the tranny. It would not grind as I shifted but only as I was driving. Didn't matter what gear, just as soon as it was in gear and the car was moving there was a grinding noise. and it wouldn't start grinding untill the clutch was fully out. Any ideas?

at first i was thinking your problem might be clutch related, but now that you posted the above, it sounds to me like your problem could be the differential. if it grinds in all gears while driving, your ring gear might not be meshing right. you said when the clutch pedal is in, the noise goes away. when the clutch is not engaged, the differential (and entire assembly) is not connected to the engine, so the diff is not spinning. you may have ground all the teeth off the ring gear. that would cause the reving while driving no matter what gear you're in.
sounds like you need a new final drive to me.

you could probably pick one up used here on h-t for maybe $50-ish. installation is another matter, however. you'd have to disassemble pretty much the whole tranny to replace it. if you're not very very comfortable with what this entails, i would suggest that you take the tranny out and find a member here on h-t, or, better yet, but more expensive, take it to a shop. if you can't remove the tranny yourself, tack on about $200-$300 to the shop's labor charge wherever you take it. tranny shops are expensive though. buddy up to a very knowledgeable and nearby honda dude (or dudette, in all fairness).

Thank you for the info. I think what I am going to do is just replace the whole tranny. Thank you everyone.
