Default what engine is this?

i dnt kno much about accords so bare with me

a "friend" of mine is apparently getting this engine for $2000CA
he says its out of a 96 Accord EX-R (USDM)

as you can see, it says DOHC VTEC on the valve cover.. ive tried telling him accords dont come with vtec. i did a little research and they do, but only the JDM Model. i found a couple that do but they dont say USDM/JDM/etc. i tried zooming in on the tag but no luck, its all blurry

the USDM accords indeed did not have any DOHC VTEC engines, but some of the JDM accords did. I don't know the exact code for the engine, but the car is called the Euro-R or SiR if I remember correctly.

actually, you can also eliminate the F22B1 since that is a SOHC VTEC from the 94-97 Accord EX (USDM)

You can probably also eliminate the F20A since it doesn't say it's a VTEC model. Thats is of course providing that info is correct.

well, in the list i made, i just got rid of all the SOHC engines, wasn't even paying attention to the vtec part =P so there, one less engine to worry about.

F20B 2.0 16V DOHC VTEC PGM-FI 1955 149 kW ?? '90-'93 Accord Si-R (JDM)

'92 Accord EX-R (JDM)
'93 Accord EX/SE (USA)

H22 2.2 16V DOHC VTEC PGM-FI 2157 190hp@6800rpm 152tq@5500rpm '94-'97 Accord SiR (JDM)

so...that leaves what...2 engines? i'd say its probably an h22.

here's the link to where i got all the info from..

http://www.geocities.com/honda...s.htm
its the most complete chart ive been able to find on the net..
like touringaccord said.. it depends on how acurate it is..

is atleast the $2K mark out of the question, if it does happen to be a JDM accord engine.. im thinking it is, but i could be wrong.. i dont kno what accord engines go for

there were a couple other mistakes I noticed in that list but that doesn't mean it isn't a good reference. I just prefer to use AD when looking for that kind of data. Here is a link to their list of F series motors.

Odd the list on the site

http://www.accordinglydone.com...ies=F

Does not have the F22A4 listed for the 91 EX models
and mine has that motor. Looked at the ID stamp on the motor

Says only the F22A6 SHOC VTEC
And mine is not the A6 for sure

Why not just pull the heat shield off and read the ending code off of the block. That way your friend & you know for sure.

It is a 2.2L DOHC VTEC engine. Always verify the engine code stamped on the front left side of the block. Also check the code on the front of the head.

guys as said before its an h22a, the only DOHC vtec that will swap into an accord with a black valve cover. the f20b andthe prelude type-s h22(not sure of the number) have blue valve covers. could be from a 93-95 prelude VTEC, but id expect it to be from a JDM accord or lude, there were more distributed there than here. if hes gettin the tranny and ecu with it then 2k canadian is real cheap, if not, then well its about average

not to be a dick, just ask the seller to remove the heat shield and get a picture of the engine code

You are going to get RIPPED bro. Open up your 5th gen manual and READ! It will say our EX models are refferred to as EX-R in Canada. Civic EX's in Canada are Si's while the US Si's are SiR's in Canada.

Canada has a different trim labeling than the U.S.

Definitely H22, and if it is an accord euro R engine, then you are not getting ripped, thats a great price, because it is not the same as an ex. The euro type R has more horsepower than the ones they put in the ludes, and they have LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIAL!!! I know someone who took an h22a out of their car to put the accord euro R engine into it, for the horsepower and mostly the tranny. Also, the euro R engine i have seen had a red valve cover.... but that could have been taken from the lude h22, i didn't ask
