Head Units are for Suckers!!!
Lightning 450W 2 channel amp : 49.99 (best buy)
20 gig Ipod : 270 (w/ student discount)
Monster RCA/headphone jack cable : 20.00
Radio Shack cell phone holder : 20.00
Kenwood 6-1/2" 2-Way Car Speakers : 69.99 - 20.00 mail in rebate.
I was tired of getting my head units stolen so....I ran RCA cables to the front, then used an RCA/RCA adapter to the monster cable. Then I drilled a hole in the vent, its really soft injection molded plastic, so you can make the hole big enough with just the drill. I then used a grabber and pulled the cord through the vent. The sound is AWESOME, and there is no head unit needed!!!
Amp...yeah...Im going to hide the wires.
Nothing to steal!!!

you know I'm kinda doing something like this. My headunit has an audio input and I flushed some audio rca jacks in my console in the teg so I can hook up any audio device to the headunit for my music. I never really thought of removing the headunit all together. Neat idea if you don't like having your headunit stolen or listening to FM/AM stations

Are you saying that he's gonna blow the amp!?!?..It looks like he is only running 2 speakers from this setup..That amp looks like it is more than enought for what he wants..The setup is soo hot..But like someone mentioned before i would have used the aux input on my headunit so i could keep the HU and also add another device..

No. What I meant was that in order to get 450 watts out of that amp, you'd need to put a 1/2 ohm load to it, and then it would only play for a half second before the smoke poured out of it...

Well that amp could get 450watts when lightning hit it....lol...
Yeah hooking up an Ipod or some sort of an MP3 player can be done, but it could and has been done much cleaner before.
Nice idea, but Ghetto execution

Re: (b18bEG)
for your ingenuity.
I did that in high school on a very small budget. SQ isn't the best, but for the price, it's ok.
I now have an ipod hooked to my eclipse deck, and it sounds much better.
Food for thought.

I would just suggest one little idea, instead of running the cable through the heater vent put in a female stereo plug somewhere on the dash and then run a cable from the Ipod to the female stereo plug. Will look cleaner.

That is pretty sweat i heard ipod makes an accessory where u can just hook up to your ipod and listen to it through your radio. no one is going to steal a radio with cassett player.
