LMAO? i didn't find anyhting funny about it but regardless it is not the process of making the collector that counts it is sizing the collector properly to the application in conjunction with an appropriate header design

Frankly I'm getting a bit annoyed by this "super majiggy secret" thing and I'm sure some others are feeling the same way. I'm trying to find time to whip up the whole thing using CAD, including where to cut, what angle to cut and so on, then i'll post it up.

I don't think it's so much of a "I want everything for free" attitude. If that was the case he would be asking "where can I get a merge collector for free". He just need an idea and some help to get started on using his own labor.
Well, here something I whipped up. I don't know if it would help much but hey. One last thing, you got to excuse my CAD skills, I just got started and I had to do this in half 20 minutes.

Here is your tube to start with.

Then simply cut it like this

This is what it looks like from the front.

Then make the same cut on the front side, if the tube was square, this two cut would be perpendicular to each other in a way

It should look like this after all the cutting.

Make four of the same thing and weld them together. Voila! you got a merge colector
Obviously I suck at explaining things, but I'm sure it helps somebody out there.

Just like a manifold is a bunch of elbows and a flange...

An intake manifold is a bunch of little tubes with big tubes on it...

Honestly i don't know what you do for a living, but time is money, and basically what you need to do is weight time + money + quality. you might be able to make the part in a decent amount of time, but will it be as good????

Louie they may know how to make it but it's the sizing that counts merge collectors dont make the header the design and construction does

Look, I know people have buisnesses and everyone wants to make money but this is a fabrication forum and the guy asks about tips on how to make a good merge collector. Instead of good info being posted, its just salesmen and he even was accused of "wanting everything for free." How are people going to learn anything with this type of attitude?

Sorry for the rant but I'm sure if this guy wanted to just buy a merge collector, he would have posted in the classifides. Some people actually enjoy building things, take pride in their own work (I know I do) and rather create something instead of just paying someone else to do it.

I couldn't have said it better. It was starting to look like a classifed forum with posts that said "I can't help you with that, but I can sell you one"

Burns makes top notch merge collectors but someone representing the company hijacking this guys thread is downright wrong. What are you some ***** trying to limit the flow of information? I am not impressed.

So Let me see here after all the posts where i have tried to lead ppl in the right direction on welding header design etc. i am a ****? LOL

I gave the guy the the option and it was more itended as a joke if you really wanna go into it, people that drive hondas are known as the cheapest racers out there. So what do you excpect? i understand he's just looking for information but certain stuff you just don't get for free from the itnernet and if you are willing to work so hard put some thought into it and figure it out as said above it is not that hard.

Oh by the way i drive a honda and i love getting stuff for cheap/free, at the same time i understand it's better to pay for certain things or that im going to need to pay for certain things.

But to call me a **** you have to be kidding me

Since im such a **** heres a tip make sure your fitment is abosultley perfect. I would go into more detail but the process has already been explained

^^^ there it is common sense is all you need and the super secret part i was joking next time i will hint the sarcasm

APologies i didnt think anyone would take the thread as far as to start name calling etc. I did not at all itnend for my post to create this mayhem

Well I am sure that burn's has much better jigs and would probably laugh at the simplicity of my stuff.

Even so when I was getting started playing with this stuff I didn't have a clue how to hold a pipe still while I cut it.. After talking to some people I came up with a simple and effective method.. I don't mind sharing..

I would like to see some of the stuff that burn's and others use just to see how detailed it is. Some of this stuff blows my mind.

We would never laugh at the simplicity of anybodys stuff, we would however give ya a "That a boy" for a genuine attempt wethere the end product is good or ba dat least your trying.

Before i started working here i was a technician i had never fabbed anyhting in my life. when i started her ethey didnt take me out to the shop and say ok here is how we make evryhting i had to ask and show the itnerest to be taught. My job is to answer your guys's questions and do R & D projects not too fab that is just a HUGE bonus i get

i will also post up pics of my jigs. Like elusive said its not all about the cutting, anybody can do that. Piping diameter makes or breaks the whole deal. Usually you can figure that out using simple math and some physics.. I knew engineering would pay off somewhere

First off all the sponsor marketplace is over here. I dont want to sit and debate this because arguing on the internet is stupid and arguing over some stupid **** like this is even more so.

I just personally felt that someone with your obvious connections to Burns shouldnt be trying to sell this guy a merge collector when this is clearly the Welding and Fab forum. Theres enough annoying advertising out there... dont become a part of that.

No beef here dude... like I said Burns is TOP NOTCH and you guys really know your stuff!

Also for the record I'm not a cheap Honda driver my project is a turbo mustang (ok ok so I drive the civic daily too )

so past the drama..

ON WITH THE PICS OF THE JIGS!

I'm really curious about creating my own collector or buying one. How exactly do you make the little park that fills in the spaces between the collector sections?

Good job Buddy!!! Like you, I have an interest in how to make collectors and am asking for those of you that do have the knowledge to give me some advice. If you do technical support and R & D, then do your job and answer the question on the top of this thread, instead of trying to sell me your $400 collector.

Thanks to everyone else who's contributed useful information.

there is no little piece on a merge collector.. if you look at the pics posted earlier it shows what the parts should look like. I will try to take some pics tonight of how to cut them.. Again I need hosting.. Some one email me if your willing.
