Turbo Rabbit Intake Manifold Gangsterness
I decided to make a nice intake manifold for my buddies 79 Rabbit to compliment the custom mini ram stainless exhaust manifold I made for it awhile back.
I took a stock intake, 4 dellorto aluminum velocity stacks, 3.5 inch aluminum tubing with the help of alot of rod I think tacked up something pretty decent. Still waiting for the round endcap to finish things off.
Plenum volume was never measured but I went with the "bigger but not too much bigger" approach, lol. It does have a nice taper towards the end but in the pix its a little hard to tell.
what do you guys think?
Keep in mind I dont pride myself on my aluminum melting skills and this is the first intake Ive ever done and 30 year old aluminum really sucks to weld on.

i think it looks good.
but I like how everyone feels like they have to defend themselves in this forum. really shows how people feel about the critics, lol.
what did you cut it with?

Re: Turbo Rabbit Intake Manifold Gangsterness (dfoxengr)
thanks
And yeah, i was pretty sure someone would comment on the lack of penny, should hold just fine though, only pushing 7 psi, lol. I think it should help quite a bit, the velocity stacks make the runners about an inch longer than stock.
I used a regular old vert bandsaw and cut it by hand. I love how easy aluminum is to work with I have about 7 hours into the manifold already.
Oh, and a before/after dyno comparison should be done within the next few months over @ Locash

Just don't run NOS....
You just might blow the welds on that intake manifold....
(I know Lame but could not resist)

Looks nice. I am a bit surprised that you are keeping the egg-shaped TB, though.
I am an 8V turbo fan, too.

looks good, my question is whats the benifit of that style velocity stack vs the ones ross machine racing sells?

Re: Turbo Rabbit Intake Manifold Gangsterness (Longitudinal)
Well the reason for keeping the OG TB flange was that he already had a bigger 1.8 throttle body laying around and the progressive action makes driving the car very smooth. Metal is metal though, an upgrade in the future would just require one cut and a little welding.
And one benefit of the velocity stacks that I used was that they cost me a total of $0 dollars They are just old carb velocity stacks that have the two bolt flange on the bottom cut off.
1.6 counterflow 8 valve FTW

I'll give you that. I put a big Honda TB on my first SDS-fueled Fox project. Response way too snappy to be useful. I guess I was assuming that this was remaining a CIS car, in which case there would be a little built-in cushion to make take-offs easier.

Reprazent. What a fun engine, and durable! I'd like to have the spare money to do up a high flow head with big stainless valves. With 10:1 compression and a nice cam, the 1.6L would be a blast. Or a turbo, which is probably the route I will take if I ever find some spare time and money.
