Default Trying to get it off...

Over the summer I gained some big weight to the point where I was at 201. I'm 5' 10" and I've never been skinny... I finally decided to really do something about it. I have some nice workout equipment so I started to use it finally lol.

I am now ending my 8th week. I'm at 187 pounds. I have been running for 40 minutes usually getting in 3.5 miles on the elliptical machine. I lift 5 days a week, give or take one day. I have been eating good on the weekdays and take off on the strict dieting on the weekends.

The problem I'm having is that I have hit a wall. I haven't lost weight in about 2 weeks yet I still eat the same if not healthier than before. Is there any advice you guys can give me because honestly I have no clue what I'm doing...

you're probably going to need to be alot more specific to get any help.

a detailed breakdown of your workout routine (how often you run, what lifts, # of reps, ets) would probably help.

SUPER- breakdown of your diet (eating and drinking) would also be good.

losing weight is an energy problem, your body requires X number of calories/day to operate.

you basically have to lightly starve yourself while maintaining enough physical activity to keep your metabolic rate from decreasing. (and make sure you're providing enough nutrients for the muscles)

also, the body doesnt really want to do what you want it to, and tries to compensate to f*ck your plans.

you need to switch up your routine and diet enough to keep it guessing.

I'm no expert, but I've managed to go from ~200 lbs to ~180 lbs since July (6' 0"), I'm fairly muscular, so 180 is a pretty lean/mean weight for me (abs are well defined, etc)

your body has gotten used to your routine. how many calories are you taking in per day? if you're stale-mated at that amount, try cutting a few hundred calories from your diet for a few days, and see if that helps spark your body

My calorie intake is erratic and I feel as if though that may be a problem. I fluctuate anywhere from 1700-3000 per weekday.

Learn to use it, don't cheat, and find yourself a decent intake. 1700 is probably way low and 3000 is probably way high.

It doesnt really matter what your routine is. The bottom line is that your body is getting used to the routine. You need to "shock it" again. As you lose weight, the thinner you get the harder it is to lose. You should control your calories a little more. You can cheat but to be between 1700-3000 is a lot. You should probably keep it around 1700 and on cheat days go to 2000-2300. Increase the intensity of your cardio and switch up your workout. Start your workout from the last exercise being the first and making your usual first exercise your last. you could also switch your days around.

True story. I changed up my entire routine for the last 2 weeks and I'm extremely happy with the results I've been seeing. In addition to the routine change, I also changed my diet and running habits so its all a big difference now. I'm at a consistent 187, back up from a low of 183. I'm gaining muscle quick and I can tell I'm definitely losing fat. Thanks guys for all your help and advice
