Default Homeowners: What do you use as a primary heat source?

Not applicable to people that dont need heat obviously, but how about the rest of us? Just curious.

I have an apartment with a fire place, so I will be using that mainly once it starts to get cold. Electric heat is expensive.

Yea luckily we have a municipal plant so electric is relatively cheap for residents.

Natural Gas.

Fireplace in the family room is fairly large, and the stone extends out nicely.. but the warmth is only sufficient for that room. it's really just a mood pleaser. haha

I have fireplaces and besides having company over and holidays we don't use them. They let more heat out IMO.

If I wasn't renting this place short term, I'd have a gas fireplace installed. But since I plan to move in the next year, no real reason. Now about that fire

Maybe so, but wood is free, lol, just have to chop it, and my house is smalle, so the wood stove in the basement keeps it nice and toasty all winter. This reminds me, I have to call the chimney sweep to come out soon.

I have been using a little Vornado heater fan that I use in my room. I used it all last winter on nights I didn't sleep on the couch and it took my gas bill down from $240/mo. to under $60 a month. The regular natural gas heater is turned on from the time I get home until the time I go to sleep, then the fan is turned on and gas is turned off. Power bill increased though by about $20.

Heat pumps

Worst power bill in five years was about $180-ish. But reverse air-conditioning sucks ass. While it may be technically "warm," it never feels that way

It really sucks having only 2 of us in such a big(for 2 people) home...downstairs stays cold, upstairs is hot. Sweaters and blankets FTW
