Default Curta, Nixie tubes, discrete transistors, oh my

I have been increasingly fascinated by all things that are retro. i've been into analogue synths most of my life, and now i've been pining away for mechanical things. like the curta calculator, and the nixie tube clock, to go along my walnut cased moog modular synth.
anyone else wants to spend their money on things that can outlive the cockroaches?

i too am fascinated by analog synths. i have always owned digital (yamaha motif es8 and a few others) but nothing beats the analog stuff. i have always chosen digital out of necessity but if i had real recording equipment i would certainly opt for analog.

speaking of synths, i am always on the lookout for a reasonably priced roland g707 synth guitar so if anyone ever spies one, let me know.

have you ever played with any of the virus stuff? not quite the same but some of their fake analog stuff sounds pretty damn close and it has all of the modern conveniences.

old school peavey black widow woofers.

they are DISGUSTING. seriously, will destroy a cerwin stroker equivalent subwoofer.

only available in 15/18". I usually buy the entire loud speaker cabinet assembly as long as the woofer is intact.

then cut them down and use vintage pioneer amps to drive them and voila....thor's amp cab....in your hands. playing a bass guitar is like that speaker scene from the howard stern movie x10 for da wimenz @ 1/4 volume on a low G....

no likey the virus in particular, although some other guys got the VA thing down, for example, alesis ion, waldorf microQ, the arturia and gmedia software, but nothing beats a Pro1 if you want to rip the head off with hardsync.
what about the daily life stuff?

My buddy built a sweet nixie tube clock, it's so bad ass! What does a nixie clock kit cost anyway?

I've been into vintage stereo equipment for quite a while now. The stuff is all analog and seriously built. Marantz is my brand of preference for amps and whatnot, technics for turntables.

Vinyl played through a vintage Marantz has that 'three martini sound' that just can't be replicated by new audio gear. And how awsome is it that their advertising slogan was basically 'Buy a Marantz - it's as good as being wasted.'

Pic of my system:

I've always wanted to get into classic turntables and tube amps. But I don't have anywhere near the checkbook for it. I about fainted looking at cartridges for an 80's Pioneer turntable I have.

My dad still has his 60's Fisher console stereo, with Dual turntable. Remote matching speakers for upstairs. I'll make room for it somewhere if he'll give it to me. We might be going up there this weekend, I'll try to get some pics.

Cool, grab the pics!

As for the cartridge, the AT440mla is awsome for the price - $80 ain't too bad I think.

Craigslist also has deals for the equipment if you look long enough...

I paid $10 for the turntable

I haven't been able to set anything up here, no room for a turntable in my AV stand I may have to scrounge around for an old amp/tuner for my office though.
