Default any problems using generic brand protein powders and snack bars?

Such as those found at Walmart in the health section? I picked up a generic whey protein shake mix and snack bars since I was there but havent opened them yet. Should I avoid these at all costs or just watch out for any particular ingredients? Or should I just stick with brands found at GNC and other health stores? I browsed the FAQ and didnt see what I was looking for.

Yes, I would avoid at all costs. Problems with cheap or generic protein powders (just to name a few):

-bad taste
-poor macronutrient profile
-poor mixability
-poor quality proteins
-unnecessary fillers (ie sugars, chemicals)

Mail ordering from places like bodybuilding.com or dpsnutrition.com will be cheaper than GNC 99% of the time (unless you're lucky enough to find one who will price match). Their regular prices are usually better than GNC's 'Gold Club' sales prices even calculating in shipping and/or tax.

GNC is really overpriced. For example GNC sells Muscletech Nitro-tech for like 57 bucks or something, whereas the local nutrition store here where i live sells it for 30 something. But then again their prices are almost dead even with BB.com.

About the Generic items, I've always been under the impression that they just don't use as high of quality ingredients.

well the one i picked up is apparently sold at vitamin shoppe as well. i just found a link for it. let me know what you think. i tried it last night for the first time and it was actually pretty good. mixed well, nice smooth milkshake taste, 1/2 cup ice, 1 cup 2% milk (will do skim next time), blended with half banana, some strawberries and a couple rasberries.

I have the gold card at GNC, but rarely use it. BB.com mostly gets my business. I mean syntha 6 for gnc is almost 20 more then what i pay on bb.com. I asked them why and they couldnt answer. No big deal. But there was a time where GNC had ON protien like 5 dollars cheaper then bb.com. You just have to check from time 2 time. Trueprotien.com looks like a great site but i never know how to pic the right blend for myself...sooo many options. lol

Any suggestions on flavors? I might give their morning formula a try. I'd much rather do a shake in the morning instead of egg whites.

GNC can eat a penis!
I buy from BodyBuilding.com, Vitamin Shoppe and DPSNutrition.com
I stick to ON 100% Whey, Love Strawberry, Mocha Latte and Carmel Toffee Fudge!
For Bars I love the ProMax Bars! They are pretty tasty and have a good nutritional Profile.
