It's cool, but I don't see it being a feature I'd use a lot, nor do I see it being useful on their pro line of cameras. Most professional photographers (Photojournalists, anyway), are taking photos for print media. A movie does them no good. Is it a cool feature? Absolutely.

I liken it to a camera on a cell phone. I'd rather my phone be as good as possible at making phone calls. Leave the photography to my camera.

With that being said, I think this will be a huge selling point in the prosumer market. It basically comes down to choosing between HD Movie mode
or paying 300 extra slightly better IQ/3mp resolution and (arguably) better high ISO performance, with no movie mode.

Personally, I'd go with the Canon. I think I'm in the minority however.

i think dslr are moving towards p&s with features such as live view and now movie mode. I think the D90 is going to target pro-sumers and not professionals. Cool function especially because you can use it with different lenses.

I can definately see the benefits of a movie mode in consumer & prosumer dslr's.
I wouldn't mind having it... especially since I have a little one on the way.

Obviously it's not something a pro camera would/should have, and it would be in a secondary camera for me.
At this point, I'll just sit back and wait for Canon to drop a feature like this in their xxxD lineup.

wouldn't be surprised to see it in the new 5D, but who knows.

I agree that the video feature is definitely aimed more towards the prosumer market but its still pretty cool.

I love my D80 But I really want a D90. A hair faster on the fps and a built in sensor cleaner. I probably will rarely use the Live View simply because I am so use to holding the camera at my eye, but there have been a few times where it would be nice. And it uses the same battery grip as the D80!

Now I just need to figure out what im going to sell so I can get one sooner.

one thing about movie mode is you have to manually focus!

no autofocus in movie mode

im probably going to upgrade it, alot of ppl say get a d300 but its 600$ more

d90= 999 plus tax for body
d300= 1600 plus tax (going off amazon price)

plus the d90 will sill be able to use my d80 battery grip :D

it uses technology inherited from the d300 so its basicly what the d80 was to the d200

the d90 is to the d300

i like it uses a cmos sensor
heres a video of chase jarvis using it he says the iso shots at 3200 he loves

I really like the new D90. Some will adore the new D-Movie feature, some won't.

I personally would love to pick one up, especially after Chase Jarvis' vid. I find that it will be very useful for snowboarding. I could use movie mode if I want to get some footage of my friends wiping out or doing some rails or jumps. Only issue is that I don't think its weathersealed...plus I'd have to pick up a bunch of SD cards instead of sharing CF cards with my brother.

Ya it's definitely for someone that's going to need the feature and don't want to bother carrying additional gears and still get a decent video output. Although the D300 is something I'm considering too, sooner or later I need to upgrade!

i definately wouldn't mind having a video feature on my canon. it's not the reason I would buy it, but saves me from having to carry around my credit card p&s to band rehearsals, writing sessions, and exhaust cilps

I'm a bit disappointed though reading through Ken Rockwell's website. Nikon's so-called good ISO handling really seems like they software sharpen the images. The crop pictures really show it on his site.

Maybe I'll just stick to my Canon and upgrade to 5D this winter.
