Default Any downsides to Canon repair?

I have a Canon Powershot Pro 1 camera that is a few years old. It's no SLR camera but it's a pretty nice camera. It was $1000 or so when new. I think when I got it it was onsale for $800 or so at the time however I got it cheaper from a employee discount. I really like it however today it got broken. One of the pins got bent down where the CF memory card goes in. So you can't put the memory card in. Well you can but it wont work.
Here is the link to the camera I have
http://www.amazon.com/Canon-Po...r=1-1

I called Canon today to see if they could repair it and they said they could for $149. Any downsides to this? The camera is in near perfect shape other than this issue that I had happen today.

If it was my cheaper camera I'd just buy a new one however I don't have a ton of money I want to spend on a camera and I really like this one so $149 seems like a deal. I'm sure there are better things out there nowadays though.

I looked on Amazon and the cheapest used one was like $385 or something. Since they are selling used for that I'm thinking $149 is a deal to have mine fixed that is in near perfect shape.

Any reason not to do this? Any downsides to them repairing it? Should I look at new camera's to upgrade or just fix this one? I really just don't have a ton of money for a new one. I have a cheaper as in $180 or so when I got it Canon I use for everyday use but I like having this for when I want nice quality pictures.

If it meets all your needs I'd totally recommend getting it repaired. Plus they double check everything. FYI, a lot of people will buy professional L lens and have it sent it to get it dialed in almost as soon as they buy it.

ummm call canon. slickdeals people have been trading in their old, broken (dont need to be broken) canon cameras for new ones for a fraction of a price. you get to keep all accessories also. all new models.

Might check out slick deals as I haven't in a while but in all honesty I don't know that there is even a new camera I want and this one does just fine for the most part for me. I wouldn't mind one with a 12x optical zoom but the 7x works fine for the most part. That's the only upgrade I wouldn't mind. I called Canon today and that's how I found out about the repair price. I may call tomorrow to find out what I need to do to send it in.

i suggest just trading it for a new one and pay the fraction. i can`t fin the link currently but last time i checked the trade price was only around 200 for the newer model as opposed to payin them that much for repair. just call and ask about that trade deal and how much it would cost you.

I called back today and without asking they told me about the Cannon Loyalty program. I looked at the Camera's they were offering and just didn't see one that I really wanted at the prices they were offering. They seemed like good prices but I just really didn't want to upgrade. Especially not when the one I have is going for more used on Amazon than their most expensive camera they were offering costs. I can also get Canon camera's through a family member that works at a store that sells them and has a family discount. Being that I could get them cheaper from there than normal anyway I figured if I did anything I'd be better off to fix mine then sell it then just buy a new one however I really like the one I have and don't really see any reason for me to upgrade so I think I will just keep what I have and get it repaired. For now at least.

Not trying to sound like a jerk but it seems like you're too emotionally attatched to your camera

For not much more than you're saying your camera costs these days, someone could buy a used DSLR. I think it's time to move on. Get the best camera Canon is offering you or buy a cheap DSLR.

I don't need a SLR camera as I just don't need one. Sure it would be nice and I wouldn't mind having one but no point in paying $125 extra for the one they are offering than it would cost to have mine fixed that takes great photos and does all I need. I also think if I got it fixed I could sell it for a lot more than what I'm getting taken off from them. I mean the cheapest one on Amazon used is $385. I think I could sell mine and buy it through the store I can get a family discount on and more than likely come out ahead and have a brand new camera not a refurbished one. I just don't really see the need to do that though. If I get a new one I'd more than likely retire this one to the spare camera and just get a brand new one.

My point was more about how you mention being able to sell your camera if you ever felt like it.

I'm sure someone would buy a cheap (used) XTi before they bought a p&s if they were looking to spend about the same amount.

If you don't feel like spending the money then by all means, keep it
