Default Easy way to clean a lens?

I recently took my 50mm 1.8 out and I have no idea how it got extremely dirty. It looks like it has some sort of fibers in it.

It's inside the lens. Is there any easy way to do this? I stared at it for minutes and couldn't think of when/where/how it got that dirty out of nowhere since it was pefectly fine a few days ago

I haven't even dared to take a picture, it looks pretty nasty in there.

Just take a shot to find out. Its not going to hurt the camera.

If it is messed up and you wanna be daring you can take it apart, I'm pretty sure there are screws on the back of the lens and clean it out. Then just put it back together the same way you took it apart.

If you break it you've got a nice paper weight.

lol I'd still be disappointed if I broke it.

Shouldn't be hard though right? It's a pretty simple lens.

Take a pic first, with a small aperture... if you don't see the stuff in the picture, then don't worry about it.
If it's noticable, then yean, give it a shot.

With that lens, I would do it myself. With a more expensive lens, I'd send it to Canon.

even just try and use a blower to blow some air down in there...if you adjust the focus on the lens the rear glass should move....I was able to blow out something funny I saw in mine doing this.

I'm telling you man it'll make for a great paper weight if anything does happen. One reason why this and the kit lens are throw away lenses. You can buy a used one for like $80. Unless your not working it shouldn't be hard to come up with that extra money.

I say try fixing it yourself.

I wouldn't say my kit lens is exactly "a throw away" lens. They sell for almost $400 retail.

Well it seems I have a new paper weight.

After taking 5 min to curse and get over breaking this thing, I still don't see how I would have cleaned it. I have the lens out of the "shell" but I still and see how I'd be able to clean the inside of it.

Edit: I forced it open. I wish I knew how dust got inside this thing. It was damn near impossible for me to crack open the inner part of the lens.
