those are nice prices if you have something to turn it... I wouldn't mind a G9, and I know the XT is still a very capable camera.

I'd so buy a g9 at that price. I wonder if I buy a old camera off craigslist if that will work.

From what i understand, yes. I sent my S230 in for it possibly being the CCD problem, if it is i'll be getting a replacement for free. I'm having trouble trying to decide if i want the SD630 that they typically swap for free due to the service bulletin, or the Rebel XT Kit. I've already got a 1D MK3, so the tiny P&S to be able to keep in my car or whatever is appealing, but so is the fact of having a second SLR body...actually, the more i think about it, the more I'm thinking I want a rebel.

Actually, scratch that, i just remembered i have an old powershot a70 sitting around at home too. I'll probably end up having them give me the SD630 for free, and then doing a rebel kit.

SD630, for reference.

I don't get it. If I send in my A80 (which works fine), I could get a G9 for $250 or XT for $275?

Yep, apparently it might need to be broken, so just put it in the microwave for a couple seconds

That's why you call and arrange the new one first. They don't KNOW it doesn't work, they know you're telling them it doesn't work.

I had a broken A300 that I tried to get a SD630, but they would only let me upgrade to a A460 - $79, A560 - $89, or SD750 - $100.

Did anyone successfully get a free SD630?

What camera did you call and tell them you'd broken?

I had broken a PowerShot S230 about 5 years ago, actually dropped it while drunk one night. They had a recall on that same camera for a faulty CCD sensor. Rather than diagnose or repair, they just sent me a new one.

What about water damaged cameras? I have an old A610 that had water damage and wont turn on. Or do these have to be normally warrantied damages?

I just contacted canon. My SD300 has a broken LCD so they offered me the rebel XT for 299. I might get it as a backup to my 40D

that's a tough question. if you think you're going to be in photography for the long haul than get the xt because you can always use the glass for future cameras whereas the g9 is stuck with its glass
