If the U.S. had to pick a 51st State, who should be the 51st State?

Home Grown - Washington D.C..

Alantic - Puerto Rico/Virgin Islands.

Pacific - American Samoa/Guam/etc.

Foreign - Canada/Mexico.

Ten bucks says that guy in the pink polo with his collar up drives a G35.
Did you know Lance Bass has a G35?

MEXICO

There are some reasons behind my vote for Mexico.

First, they have a pretty large oil industry. Actually, it is based off of a large oil field in the gulf of Mexico, which is running out of oil. The Mexican government knows this. This is propping up the Mexican economy so to speak.

Second, our government knows that when this oil field is dry, there is a good chance the Mexican economy will take a tumble.

Thus, here in the US you might here our politicians bitching about illegal immigrants from Mexico being here but that really isn't the big deal anymore. The big deal and focus is now on building a fence to keep even more of them out once their economy tanks.

So, pay attention... the focus is not on the illegals here anymore it is on keeping a whole lot more of them out. Our focus has turned.

I see your point about instability. But why would we want "land" that was once oil rich and the people on the land will be suffering? Would Mexico then be looking at some type of civil war? Going back to the old school idea of taking one's poor and hungry?

To increase the tax payer base.

To increase the tax payer base.

Increasing the number of tax payer does not necessarily equal to increase taxes collected.

We can agree that the "rich" pay a lot of taxes compare to the poor. A guy who makes 200K a year will pay about 35% in income taxes (fed and state).

Where as a guy why makes $10K a year will get every cent of his income taxes withheld back.

And someone who makes $25K a year will pay about 20% in income taxes.

Not exact numbers, but you get the point.

To increase the tax payer base.

To increase the tax payer base does nothing if they aren't making over $100k a year. Anyone making LESS than that is a net consumer of government spending. Meaning they take more than they pay in.

Maybe that is what Obama really wants to do. It was really a slip when he said there were 57 states. He really intended to say, "soon there will be 57 states."
