PC connected to LCD via HDMI: colors look odd now« » Reply  Edit

Hi,

I have a mobo with HDMI out and its connected to my LCD but the colors look odd and generally not as good as DVI. Does anyone know why? my LCD is a FP241VW. Is there some processing done on the HDMI that isn't done over DVI?

thankx,

Check your manual. LCDs only support a set of resolutions through HDMI. Check the resolution required and set it in your computer. I say though just use DVI, same digital connection less of the hassle.

use DVI, my guess is that your monitor isn't big enough to handle HDMI resolution and aspects. Unless you got a bigger screen that runs specifically on hdmi 720/1080, use DVI for the monitor

hiya,

my lcd is a 24" that has HDMI in, in the "info" OSD, it says i'm running at 1080p res. so 1980*1080. It doesn't look scaled but colors do look off, I'm wondering if I get those color calibrating things for my lcd, I can set it so that the colors look normal.

Are you using it as a tv or as a pc monitor? Does problem appear with the dvi connection? Have you tried a different hdmi cable?

I suggest to just use the dvi connection or return the lcd.

have you tried the hdmi cable with anything else? like a cable box or game system etc..? could be a bad cable. check your display settings. the resolution shouldnt effect the color but you could be set on like 8bit or something.

Control panel > display properties > settings tab > advanced > color management

For HDMI *I imagine* that you would need a different color profile. You can find them online specifically for your monitor. Try that and get back to us.

HDMI uses a different color space than PC DVI/VGA singal. you have to adjust your color profile for the device you are using and the input

Thanks, I'll see what I can find. I wasn't able to find a color profile for my lcd though. I might have to get those color calibrators.
