I got infected with the Antivirus Pro 2008 thing that pops up every 5 minutes, controls my web browsing, and basically is just an overall pain in the ass!!

Can anyone tell me how to get rid of thisdamn thing?!?!

Change all your passwords/security questions/etc on every account you have on an unaffected computer.

Rebuilt that one, that is a nasty trojan

2. download an antispyware program, http://www.lavasoft.de is a good free one

3. download a good firewall, http://www.zonealarm.com has a good one

4. go to http://www.mozilla.com and download the noscript add-on for firefox

download all of them and run all the scan tools

if all the above doesn't work, you got a pretty huge problem on your hands.

As mentioned, reboot in safe mode and run whatever arsenal of anti-virus/spam ware you have. You should try:

start >programs > accessories >system tools >system restore

system restore it to like two weeks ago

if this doesnt work, ctrl + alt + delete and look for the file, hopefully it's an actual file name, stop it. Goto the search/find and type in that file name and find it in safe mode? and delete it, it probably wont let you delete if it's running, reasong for being in safe mode.

When I had this same virus, it erased all the restore points.

It also wouldnt give me normal access to any of my drives and wiped out my start menu.

wow, what a pesky virus, but going into the registry like stated above and start deleting values seems like the best route.
