converting/Burning to DVD to play in DVD player?? HALP!« » Reply  Edit

My Uncle found an old video of my grandparents wedding, and was able to get it onto the computer. (a friend showed him before he was shipped off to iraq) but now we are trying to figure out how to get it onto a DVD to play in my Grandma's DVD player. It is in AVi format and I've done some searching and nothign has come up as a help. I have all the drivers and firmware updated and it will burn through for abou 45min then come up as an error and nothing plays and the DVD-R is then useless.

I've gone through a whole pack of DVD-R's now and I really need some assistance, My Grandma's 80th Birthday is in 2 weeks and we are having a big celebration, if I could get this on DVD to play for her. That would be awesome! TIA

An avi file on a dvd won't be playable in dvd players normally. You need to convert the avi to a DVD format. NERO has some software to do that, and its relatively inexpensive (without formally telling you there are places you can dl it for free, despite thats pirating, then again in the 21st Century its not like that's a concept nobody knows already, or gives a crap about for that matter).

NERO 8 is what you want. It does take a while to convert though and you need a good HD too if you don't want it to take forever. On my old pentim 4 1.8 ghz it took about 4 hours to convert 1 full dvd. On my newer desktop, amd athlon 4200 x2 it took about 35 minutes. Usually CPU is the bottleneck in video conversion but i guess it would also help if you had striped raid on your hard drives.

Do you have windows Vista home premium or Vista Ultimate?

If so let me know because they have an awesome and super easy to use dvd maker.

If not download and install and dvd maker software such as this one.

Good info. I downloaded a bunch of music videos that I was going to burn onto dvd to play in my car but haven't really had the chance to play around with any programs or anything.

Great. Got to the search bar in the start menu and type in "dvd maker" and press enter, add in the file you want to put onto a dvd, choose a menu style, and click burn. Depending how fast your computer is it could take 15min to 4 hours.

better to use dvd maker than movie maker, its easier. Only use movie maker if you want to edit and add in visual effects and a soundtrack.
