Default 89x85 Project: Latest numbers

As some of you may remember, my father built a stock-sleeved 85mm B20VTEC about a year ago.

Since then, it has been put through countless drag strip passes, serves as his daily driven (and beaten on) work vehicle, and most recently, was driven 6 hours to Virgina International Raceway in Danville, VA for this year's Integra Type-R Expo 8 (of which we were a sponsor of, BTW), beaten on around the course for 20 minute-straight periods at a time in 102-degree heat, and driven back to Carlisle, PA.

CRX @ VIR

Before we left for VIR, though, I took some time and played with the car on our fairly-new dyno, and managed to squeeze a couple more ponies out of her. Two degrees advance on the exhaust cam, and some experimentation with intake length resulted in a 6whp increase, and here are the final numbers.

The solid line is with the cutout open, and the dotted line is with the cutout closed, and the car attempting to breathe through the 2.36" Tanabe exhaust.

For those who are unfamiliar with the build, is consists of the following:

B20B block
85mm stock sleeves
RS Machines pistons
Stock rods with ARP bolts
No girdle, no blockguard
PR3 head
Brian Crower Stage 3's
UGR valvetrain
Victor X manifold
Tri-Y header
QTP exhaust cutout
Tuned with NepTune

Just thought I would keep the H-T community updated with the status of the lifetime of our little stock-sleeve big-bore B20 project.

Thanks for looking.

Mild port clean-up but basically stock.

Just a little more background.

This thing did 12.4@110 with its previous cams. Right now, it seems to be traction limited with 22"s.

Wow 30-40whp gains all over the powerband with the cutout open.
Obviously you run it at the track with the cutout open?

Yes, the cutout is open at the track.

Although, it wasn't allowed to open at VIR, as my father's instructor couldn't "instruct" with it open.

12.4 @ 110mph on the old cams/manifold setup making 220whp.

We need to step up slick size now to get a good pass out of it now.

Impressive. Did you have a different IM before? You aren't reving that high, I would expect better numbers from a ITR style IM.

Very curious to see what stepping up to the big tube would do.

First time I've seen impressive numbers on BC cams. Granted they are the stage 3s, I'm willing to bet you would still see a better curve with Skunk pro 2s.

Did it really hit 102? It was hot but I never checked to see how hot.

lol at the cutout. My instructor had to put his ear plugs in due to my SMSP race exhaust. By the time we got hand signals figured out the first session was over and I was signed off for the event.

Good to meet you and your dad.

I wish I could have made it to expo this year. Going to try and run it next year, hopefully they bring it back to the midwest.

Nice to see this car doing triple duties. DD, strip, and circuit. I bet it feels like a go-cart on the track.
