Kyle you rock!

Oh yeah congrats to the Detroit Old Age Home for winning the Cup blah blah blah now get out of here you old farts.

So... Off season news...

I can't find the link, but apparently 6 to 8 teams have offered Jim Basillie to sell their teams. From what I heard on the Fan590 yesterday, they are all in southern USA.

Just for Fun : Fantasy GM

If I were GM of the TML, first thing I'd do (not considering future GM or coach) would be to draft Nikita Filatov to make a Russian duo with prospect Kulemin or the best forward I can get.

Kubina had a great 2nd half of the season so he'd be traded. Tucker, McCabe, and Blake would also be on the block.

Raycroft would be put on waivers.

Where I'd put the majority of emphasis for the 08/09 season would be stacking up on Defence. Top players I'd look at would be:

1) Brian Campbell
2) Wade Redden (if he takes less $$)
3) Ron Hainsey
4) Adam Foote

My team strategy would be building from the Goal out. With the goal situation settled with Toskala - Clemmensen - Pogge, I'd look for steady stay at home defencemen in the 26 to 31 year old age bracket as preference. I'd keep the forwards young with a maybe a veteran to lead them.

Sundin? He can have a 2 year contract with a home town discount or else it was nice knowing ya.

----- end of fantasy GM -----

Projected overall rankings without taking team needs into consideration:

The goalie class doesn't look that great this year. Tons of good defensemen in the draft this year though.

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Friday that the team has signed free agent centre Tim Stapleton.

Stapleton, 25, spent the past two seasons playing for Jokerit of the Finnish Elite League. In 2007-08, he recorded a team-high 29 goals and he was second-best in both assists (33) and points (62) while playing in 55 games for head coach Doug Shedden. This past season he placed fifth in Finnish Elite League scoring and second in goals.

Stapleton attended the University of Minnesota-Duluth from 2002 to 2006. In 162 collegiate games he scored 63 goals and added 89 assists for 152 points. As a freshman, he led the team in scoring with 42 points and he repeated the feat in his final collegiate season by earning 30 points. He led the team in goals in his third and fourth seasons in college.

The season's been over for only a few days and the Leafs already added a 2nd forward!

Is it September yet?

Caps signed Oscar Osala a few days ago (3 year deal). It's expected that he'll start the season in Hershey but some have made the argument that a good training camp could land him on the roster to start the season (which I don't buy with the forwards we have coming back from injury and RFA's we're hoping to resign). Can't say I know a whole lot about him though (besides the basic stuff i've read online). I've heard nothing but good things from other caps fans so hopefully it will work out.

Some people are worrying about resigning Green, but honestly with the way Mcphee handles things its almost impossible to know the status of his/Huet's/Fed's contract talks.

What's the interview about James?

Gotta love the Euro! After Greece I'm also cheering for ZEE Germans! Apparently Holland is serving Italy.

Howard Berger got Ron Wilson on the phone 1 day prior to the announcement, where Ron announced that he is in fact the new coach of the Maple Leafs. He said Cliff called him the very moment after they announced he was fired from San Jose (always with the finger on the trigger huh Cliff?) and that he's very excited to coach the Leafs and alot of other crap along those lines.

Whats really interesting is what input he'll provide about which players will stay and which will go.

For Detroit fans... Ken Holland on the Swirsky Show right now! > http://www.fan590.com

Oh yeah... Hasek has RETIRED!

Zee Germans, but why!? I'm half French, half Irish. If Ireland is ever in the mix I'll cheer for them, but mostly I have to resort to my other half.

The first time we moved here, the only TV channels in English were SKY UK and EuroSport. The first football team I watched was Inter Milan who had a German trio of Andreas Brehme, Lothar Matthaus, and ofcourse Jurgen Klinsmann. In 1990 was the first World Cup I saw, and the same 3 guys won in Italia 90. Besides I love their clinical and efficient way of playing. Besides those howitzer shots from outside the area kinda remind of those powerplay slapshots in hockey.

I'm glad I'm not the only person who's pissed off. Saturday Night hockey will never be the same. F**king CTV.

Absolutely, I was fortunate enough to go to the last win of the season against Calgary, Trevor scored 2 goals and near missed a couple. The crowd was absolutely nuts for him. That's gonna be something I remember the rest of my life. Also was sad to hear of Hasek retiring but you had to expect it. One of my favorites when he was with Buffalo.
