What to do? Build Info Please« » Reply  Edit

OK guys heres whats up. I have some money burning a whole in my pocket and I want to build a turboed hatch. All I want is some opinions on what build to do. Don't want to go K series or H so basically its going to be a B. But what one? Do i go b20? b18 or b16? I'm hoping for around the 600whp mark (got a fair bit of money)
So please people, give me some ideas

I just finished having my hatch turboed by T1racing development in Rowlett TX and I LOVE it!

I have a 93 Civic hatch shell with 100K miles on it and a complete engine (B18C5), suspension and drive train swap from a 97 ITR with 32k miles on it. I use it for road course racing and time trials mostly with the Porsche club here in Dallas and it will smoke pretty much anything there now :-)

If you are going to turbo a B18C5 I would highly recommend getting a very experienced tuner to do it (Tony Palo at T1 is one of the best in the business). Being a high compression VTEC engine it has to be done right or it WILL blow up. Properly done you can avoid the gas reversion issues when in VTEC and make significant power gains on a stock motor. I am now making 325 wheel hp with 10lbs of boost.

This is not a cheap project if you are going to do it right. I wanted to make sure that this will last and I can race it as hard without popping a motor. All said and done it was close to $10K by the time I was done with exhaust, Hondata S300, intercooler, radiator, custom exhaust manifold, high capacity oil pan, thermal wrap, turbo, boost controller etc etc. but compared to the cost of the cars I can thrash at the track now it is a bargain.

Tony has an ITR that dynoed over 1100hp and hold the record for FWD cars drag racing so if you want 600 whp he is the guy to get you there (Google video Tony Palo and you can what I mean).

Hope this helps and good luck on making one smokin hatch!!

if you want to make that kind of power you are definately going to sleeve the block then bore it for some more displacement. my buddy just built a GSR that is sleeved and bored to a 2.0 and it puts out around 700whp... im not sure of all the specs but i know it is a full out build and it will be running in the 9's. that is a nice setup. i am also a huge fan of sleeved and bored b20 vtec setups... you can get that to about a 2.2 in displacement. either way will take money and some research. those would be my two choices.

And to cdnav8r sorry bud but you got ripped if you spent 10k on that turbo setup and your still running a stock bottom end and only making 325whp... cut and dried they robbed you.... unless that is including the ITR swap and everything.

Thats the only way to fly with those HP goals. And 600hp is not going to be a good street driver, if that was you intention

Basics: B18 or larger, probably a B18 upped to a 1.9 or 2.0. Precision Turbo components, and a tonnnnn of tuning.

Thanks guys for you imput.

Im probs gonna go with a b20 with b16 head with the brian crower stroker kit, LightWeight 95mm Stroke Crank, Pro Series Rods, Pistons. Port and polished head. I'm stuck on what head gear to go with? What cams, retainers, valves n springs to go with?
Its not really gonna be a street car, will be road legal just for shits n giggles. Won't be able to get it tuned in the US as im in the UK lol. Could be a problem.

Anyone else got anymore imput? The stroker kit worth it?

Thanks again

Nath

going in a B20 a stroker kit would probably be a good idea. By head gears do you mean cam gears?? i would look at skunk 2 or aem. and for valvetrain look at the buddy club or skunk 2 springs and retainers. cams are a whole different story... there are so many different ones for so many different setups... i would just search around and look at setups in forums and what kind of input they have.

Cool, cheers for that. What do you think I could rev it to with all the work done? Im hoping for it to pull all the way to 9k mark. Any chance of safely doing that?

Thanks again guys

9k is easily attainable. my buddy had a fully built Z6 with stock crank, arias pistons and pro rods and revved it out to 9500 rpm... i know some people have pushed it close to 10k also.

My opinion if it is not sleeved and ur going to have that b20 built. dont rev over 8k as the sleeves might not handle it. but u should wait for answer from someone that has a similar setup or know their stuff better than i do.
