Where can I buy DEI wire harness pins?« » Reply  Edit

I'm current working on my car alarm and (as expected) there is a significant amount of wire splicing and extending. For example, to simply extend my backup battery's +12 [V] input as well as relocate its inline fuse closer to the +12 [V] source, I had to introduce 3 butt splices.

I just think that in many cases, things would be a lot cleaner if I could simply attach a pin to a brand new wire and insert the pin into an alarm harness plug. I've been unsuccessful in searching for a place to buy these pins, so I was wondering...does anyone know of a place to buy these wire harness pins (for DEI alarms?) Are these pins even sold to the general public? I'm also looking for the inline fuse holders used in DEI alarms, if anyone knows of a place to buy them.

Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

why are you extending your 12v constant so far??? Just get some 18 gauge wire. Extending the fuse? huh

It's not far, but any extension would require butt connectors or soldering. I simply wanted to eliminate those connectors if possible. An intact wire looks better, is mechanically stronger, and is electrically safer.

The fuse is not being "extended;" I'm moving it closer to the power source. Out of the box, the fuse on the +12[V] input to my alarm/backup battery is positioned close to the wire harness plug. A short to ground on this wire can occur either upstream or downstream of the the fuse. If the short is downstream the fuse, then the fuse will blow and the wire will be protected from a current overload. If the short if upstream the fuse, then the wire may be overloaded and a fire may occur. Relocating the fuse close to the power source is safer because it minimizes the amount of upstream wire.

Your best bet is to go to a local shop and ask the installers if they have any extras laying around.
