  Busted A Valve, Got a Question« » Reply  Edit

I was trying to removing a valve spring today and the top part that sticks out pass the retainer busted. So now all you see is the retainer and the clips. Can I just replace it with a new OEM valve without doing anything to the valve seat, guide, etc?

as far as i know it should be a direct replacement. the stock spec valve should fit in a stock head without alteration.

If its busted then you wont be able to take it out. Take off the retainer and valve spring then take a small dremel wheel and cut if off. If its busted the valve wont go through the guide. I had to do this recently to a head i was working on.

I would suggest that you have a machine shop regrind the seat.

If you just install the new valve without seat work, it may be OK, but if the new valve does not seal completly, you will have a burnt valve after a while. Then you will be pulling the head again.

I was hoping I wouldn't have to do that. The seat is untouched and the NEW OEM valve should be the same as the OLD OEM valve. Even though wear and tear does play a role.

How nessarry is grinding the valve seat if I'm just going to use another OEM valve?
