No Power to my Amp?????« » Reply  Edit

I need some help guys. i tried searching, but the search function isnt working right now and I really need to get my amp to power up so i can use my subs.

I didnt really do anything, just today i reinstalled my backseats so i mounted the amp to the back of my seat. everything was working fine until i reached over to turn up the gain on my amp and then i heard a "bump" sound from my subs and then no more bass. It seems like i shorted my system somehow and now im not getting any power to the amp.

I already replaced the fuses on the amp and under the hood and the battery connection looks fine, I don't know what else to do. could my amp have just died out on me?

Any help troubleshooting this problem would be greatly appreciated. I hate driving with my crappy oem speakers with no subs.

i just tested the ground and power wires using a multimeter and they're getting a current.
Btw, its an Audiobahn A2600E 4ch amp. When i turn my key to the first notch to turn on the radio, there is a led that signals that power is on, and it comes on for just an instant when i turn the key and then it turns off.

I dont get it. Is my amp just toast? i've had it since 2000.

i just tested the ground and power wires using a multimeter and they're getting a current I assume you mean you tested for power on the power lead and continuity to the chassis on the ground, if you meant power/12V+, when you say "current" on both the power and the ground, it means your ground is no good. 94

sorry, im a ultra goon when it comes to this kind of stuff. I took the multimeter, set it on the omega setting, and then touched both tips to the ground and power wires. both of them made the needle go up.

I was assuming then that both the ground and power were ok. But you're saying the ground is bad?

again, i am clueless to electrical terminology

I would double-check the power to your amps again. It's much easier if you use a digital meter instead of those needle types. I have been using mine for over 5 years now and it was about $50 from the local Lowe's.

initially, it was grounded to the chassis. when i put my backseats in and mounted the amp to the back of my rear seats, i then grounded it to one of the screws on the fuel pump. i guess that was the problem because i now have it grounded to the chassis again and im bumpin once again.

Just remember that there are plastic bushing where the screws go into. That is not a good ground. There are plenty of threaded holes back there that could be used as grounding points.
