Hey guys ever since i started to make good power with my car i have had clutch problems. When i was stock block turbo i went threw a stocker, XTD sprung 6 puck, and a ACT unsprung 6 puck. I was going to the track once or twise a week that year soo i didnt really think too much of it since the first two were a giving to let go.
Now last year i went with a Competition Clutches unsprung iron 6 puck with the upgraded pressure plate 2300lbs clamping force if i remember correctly. Absolutely loved this clutch i hate the feel of sprung clutches this one had a real good feel to it. I only made it to the track a few time like less the 10 times equaling under 25 passes on slicks. Now a few times last year id get a feel like something slipping wasn't sure if it was tire spin clutch or tires spinning on the wheels. I marked the wheels tires weren't moving an inch so some what thought i was just spinning the tires but always felt smooth. But this was intermittent some time would grab 100% other times i get this spinning feel. Now this year first time out at the track i made 3 passes all of which i had the slipping problem. Now i know i do not make enough power to spin 25 inch slicks in 4th going 80 sooo looks like clutch. Is there something else i might be missing, i run a stock lsd and wasnt sure if this was something that might let go and cause this to happen. And if not what the heck am i doing thats giving me such bad luck with clutches. I always machine the flywheels torque things to spec im just at a loss.

dont ride your clutch so much. I have had a 6 puck on 24.5 slicks and never had a problem when i was making over 500WHP and over 300WTQ

I have a jdm gsr tranny with stock lsd not an open diff. I wasnt sure if that could some how slip instead of the clutch slipping. Im kind of boggled on how this clutch is slipping i thought i went over kill to fix my having problems.

are you going to turn it up any more? what is your long term power goals. if you are going to keep urning it up, you may want to consider a twin.

The most i would do with the car would be a bigger turbo and race gas so i assume around 550 maybe 600 at the most im still on stock sleeves so i wouldnt even want to push it that much.
And as far as twin disk to be honest i really dont want to fork out the $1200+ on a clutch set up right now. I was thinking of just running a new disk using my old pressure plate maybe playing around with different materials instead of the iron disk. Any input on what material disk to run to hold the power better. My dad keeps saying ceramic from his racing days but i dont know if those hold up on the hondas.

are you sure you aren't getting any oil on the clutch?
Are you REALLY hard on it or pre-loading for a long time? |

I really dont think id be getting oil on the clutch in any way but ill deff look into it. How would oil be getting on the clutch like tranny fluid or actual motor oil i dont really see where it would be coming from... any way to check/ fix with out removing the tranny? Its still in the car but planning on pulling wednesday on my day off.
And as far as preloading or being hard on it i usually do a small 1st gear burn out and then stage and only start to slip the clutch once the lights start dropping. Like i havent even tried getting off the tree fast just do it at my own pace. Pretty much once i start slipping it i launch. Modified by MindLess311 at 10:58 PM 5/12/2008

Competion Clutch Twin Disc FTW! Their pretty cheap compared to like a Clutchmaster or Exedy and a lot of people sell them, i bought mine last year and beat the shit out of the car everyweek and till this day never had any problems.

Well i really dont want to spend the cash on a twin disk right now i have better things to spend an extra $700 on then a clutch.
And as far as competion clutch not trying to bad mouth but i dont see me running them any more due to the clutch lasting under 4000 miles and only a hand full of passes at the track.

Exedy Twin
Joe had the same Exedy twin in his car for 2-3 seasons, 2 of them over 800whp. I wouldn't consider another clutch
