Opinion on Q-Logic Kick Panels« » Reply  Edit

I am looking to put a set of components in my DC, and have heard from quite a few Audiophile folks that door placement is quite honestly sh*t for components. I've never had any experience w/ kick panels...and have seen the Q-Logic kicks on sites like Crutchfield, etc. When I go to search, they don't SAY they fit a 2001, but I don't see why they wouldn't.

Anyone had any experience with these? How do they sound? Do they get in your way driving?

I'm really curious and would appreciate any input from you guys that have tried them out.

First, you can get great sound with door mounted speakers.

Kick panel pods can work great and will help make imaging easier.

I am no fan of Q-Logic. IMO it is "punched out" junk, you can do better yourself.

Yes they do get in the way, you will constantly be kicking them, [and the speakers] and if it is wet outside inevitably the speakers will get wet and dirty.

Don't get me wrong, a good set of properly installed pods are great for a 3way component system. 94

PS... http://www.qlogicenclosures.co....aspx see what I mean by in the way.

I had a set in my '98 Civic, and loved them.

In fact, I'm in the market for another set for my Accord.

However, they could definitely benefit from a few simple tweaks. The ABS they're made out of could be a few mils thicker, and they could come with some sound deadening on the back.

Also, if you're the fabrictor-type, if you're able to seal the back side, they'd sound even better.

As far as getting in the way, it took me about 3 days to get used to them. I lost the dead pedal in my Civic when I installed them, but it really didn't bother me that much.

But I'll agree with FCM and say that they're a catch-all for dirt & grime, especially when your passengers can't seem to remember that there are speakers on the floor.

That's some great advice guys, but my first question is what speakers are you planning on using in them. Not all speakers are create equal, there for will not preform the same in a open or seal kick panel.

Kudos to what fcm said. You CAN get great imaging with door locations and components. Albeit, the equipment and the install plays a huge role, but it can still be done.

I entered 4 competitions last year in my '94 Integra and won my class and won best of show in SQ in all 4 of them with door-mounted components. I ran Adire Audio Koda components and the imaging was fantastic. I installed the Koda mids with different tweeters in my '94 Civic and the imaging is great again. I have time alignment in my head unit and that helps out a BUNCH with raising the sound stage.

Q forms are OK depending on what you want out of the install. The good thing about Q forms is that they're super easy to install and you don't have to fabricate anything. The bad thing is they're plastic and they're generic.
