GSR with ITR cams?« » Reply  Edit

Hey,

Ive got a high comp jdm gsr with a compression ratio of 12.5:1 with all your standard bolt ons. Head is pretty much stock. Ive got 94 h22 injectors and Hondata s200 in a p28 ecu that i am waiting to put in and get tuned on. I'm not sure if i should wait it out a little longer and find a set of ITR cams then tune. Would there be any gains using ITR cams on a set up like mine? Or maybe even find a set of skunk 2 stage ones? Id love th build my head and get some lumpy cams but that wong be for a long time ...one day

THanks Paul

lots of good builds in there but.... still doesnt really answer the question. I really just want to know if its worth the money. Also they are safe to run on stock gsr valvetrain? most the people seem to run itr valvetrain with them.

There has been many threads covering your question if you were to search simply, but YES you can run ITR/CTR cams on stock valvetrain just don't rev past 8,000-8200 RPM in my personal opinion. Is it worth the money? Sure if your car is stock with basic bolt-ons.

u would see i big difference with itr cams or skunk2 stage 2... dont go for stage one they are for bone stock motors mostly so they would be too mild on your semi-all motor application and i would get valvetrain even tho its not really a must but still reliability is priceless

With compression that high you need a cam with a large primary. 12.5 CR on stock cams and 93 octane could cause you a lot issues with detonation especially on a DD.

I'd rock the S2S2 cams if you have the proper clearances

If I could get my hands on a set of skunk 2 tuner series cams which dont require head modifications would you pick one of the skunk 2's or the itr's for my set up?

Take advantage of that CR and go with cams bigger than ITR/CTR.

with that high CR it would be pointless to run stock cams. BUILD YOUR HEAD! why chance ruining that motor with detonation! I would say sunk 2 pro2's or blox hsl's which I'm running right now with all supertech valvetrain and valves with 11.8: CR. If anything dude invest in valvetrain and maybe porting and polishing your head before anything. Your motor will love you for it!

Thanks guys for the advice. I'm just gonna get a tune on it for now then and save to build my head. Might be a little bit but the plan is to rip it off port polish full valve train and cams like the skunk 2 stage 2 pro's and a retune

Should be worth the wait!

GSR head, ITR cams (and preferably ITR bottom) = excellent build. i was actually surprised how good it works. as far as the S2 stage 1's, they're the same as type r cams, so i wouldnt really bother with em.

if you're looking to do a heavy build, check the website on my sig. and call the number. he makes b series cams that are great for all motor

Do not use the Skunk pro 2 series cams. Use either the Skunk pro 1 series or stage 2 tuner series cams for your build.

Skunk 2 stage 1 cams are not the same as type R cams, they are more aggressive.

Why you say that skunk 2 pro 2's too agressive? So you say Pro 1's?

They are better suited to the build you have.

pro 1's FTMFW!

what he said! pro 2's are a little to aggresive for your setup. Have you ever heard of over-camming a motor...? thats what you would be doing with pro-2's. beleive me with that setup you will be happy with pro 1's.

your not a pro so id go with the ITRs until you step ur game up.

no but seriously you'll be slightly undercammed with ITRs on 93 octane. its almost like you have unleashed potential just chillin..waiting to be unleashed. skunk2 pro 1s would be great for a broader power band but lopy idle. s2s2s would be better for DD activity because the non-vtec lobe is similar to stock. id go pro 1s and just keep my idle at like 1000 rpm and my foot OFF the throttle around town.

i have 11.4 ish compression w/ ITRs and it makes for quite the snappy ride!!

yes the s2s2's (skunk2-stage2's) have the non-vtec lobes similar to the stock lobes. search around for camshaft measurements and compare those to the ITR's
