I made a little aluminum fitting for my K24 build for the H20 -> Oil cooler. To be perfectly honest this is the second one we've made. It's a PITA to set up the manual lathes at work to do metric threads. So we tried to find something English that would work well enough. The Thread pitch is a bastard .700-26 with a bit of extra cutting on the pitch diameter.

Technically, Honda makes the same fitting for the S2000's oil cooler, but it's on back order and has been for months. So I got tired of waiting. I made my own. The alternative is to have the block machined, which I don't want to do.

Dining room built FTMFW. har har. I'll install it with a blob of Hondabond and it'll stay in place. If a bunch of people show interest I might bang out 20 of these things on a CNC lathe with the correct therad pitch and sell them for others doing these K24 swaps.

what is the metric equivalent? M18x1.5? i thought they b-series something like M20x1.5? i could be wrong though, it was a long time ago when i made my own remote mount oil filter kit.

M18x1 is what the plug that came out of it was.

Hey you do custom flanges too? how much would a 1" thick, 3-bolt, ø2.25" exhaust flange cost? I need to extend my current exhaust flange another inch for the added K24 deck height. I'd make my own but if someone with a waterjet or plasma cutter could bang one out faster/cheaper I'm all for it.

Do I spy a Tilton Twin disc??? How much power are you planning on making with this motor to need that much of a clutch???

We're shooting for ~265hp to the wheel.

It's more about reducing weight than keeping the clutch from slipping. The stock FW, clutch and pressure plate weigh nearly 20 pounds more than the Tilton setup. I can drop 19 pounds off the wheels for $2000, but the clutch was cheaper. Now it ought to rev like a motorcycle.

so how did you make an internal .700-26 thread in the block? i've never heard of that thread size.

I didn't. The block is still metric from the factory. I made a plug that's close to metric but isn't. lol. It threads in half an inch and is not sloppy at all but it's not metric.

Technically an M18x1 is .708-25.4 nominal thread pitch converted to english. If I have an available CNC machine I could have made it correctly but the CNC lathes are producing parts for paying customers. I just needed a coolant fitting so I fudged it on a manual lathe.

I that's what they say in the machining world, "If you can't make it right, make it look good."

It works and looks good. lol

I hope theres not gonna be any problems with the incompatible threading, I've seen some crazy stuff happen due to it. Oil filters come off from nissan blocks (metric filter and imperial threads on the block) and like. I woulda just had someone lathe me one with the right thread.

Looks good. I just blocked that port off on a K20A2 to remove the oil cooler.

No man it's all good. It's not cross threaded or sloppy as hell; it engages the block's threads real well.

I can afford to use an odball pitch on a low-duty, noncritical coolant fitting. It threads in half an inch by hand and I'll install it with hondabond so it doesn't leak.

It's not like it's a wheel bearing, rod bolt or brake calipers.

but if it lets loose, wouldnt that mean the demise of the engine afte coolant comes out?

You could argue that nearly all the fasteners in the car are important but over-heating an engine usually does not happen instantaneoulsy like losing a wheel or breaking a rod.

Like I said. The threads are fully engaged in the block and the end of the fitting has a surface area of 1.53 square inches at ø.700. The coolant system exerts 23.1 pounds of axial load on the fitting at a total system pressure of 15 psi. I'll bet that it will take several hundred pounds of pressure to push the fitting out and shear off all of the threads. I'd stake your life on it.
