Buying all the parts that come in a kit, just buying them separate.

to be honest dude, if you need to ask this question, you shouldn't be considering putting a kit together.look in classifieds for complete setups.

that is a good idea. Look for an install for turbo kit install. It will give you a basis on what parts are needed. Look up those parts and see what are the benefits etc.

Don't scare him away from the begining lol. That is one hell of a serious book if you don't know anything about boost/motors at all first.

true, but let me tell you, I would've made some mad powerful cars with my first two setups had I been equipped with that knowledge instead of hearsay, lol.

Get a kit. Do it right the first time if you are not confident in piecing your own together.

ROFL +1 haha. I too suggest getting a kit from the classifieds. you can still learn a ton through this but it'll save a lot of heartache trying to match up parts and get things fabricated. I've done the "build your own kit and fab up piping" thing a few times. It's still just a PITA.

Engine & Driveline handbook that's put out by the guys from Sport Compact Car is a good place to start before you step up to Maximum Boost. Maximum Boost is also older than dirt and contains a good amount of incorrect/outdated information.Like everyone else said, once you know how a turbo system works, the parts you need will be obvious. The book I recommened is good because it takes you through each part step by step and explains its purpose and then it goes into more depth when you're ready for it. to a girl working on her own car too. (I'll second the pics request lol)

I would say maybe some info is outdated in maximum boost, but the technical info isn't incorrect.I have a more modern book called "turbochargers" at home, have to look up and see who the author is. "Honda Tuning" by Mike Kojima is pretty decent.

Yea, the basic concepts are all correct, but some of things he says and recommneds had me going "wat?" Anything Mike Kojima writes is great.

If you're looking at piecing together a turbo setup, you should first familiarize yourself with the parts you'll need. Secondly, you should decide on your power goal, your budget, and what you plan to use the car for. All of those factors will help us steer you in the right direction. I've built 5 of my own setups now. On my first one, it took me a little time to figure out exactly what i needed, but after the first time, you'll know everything by heart. If you have any questions, PM me.
