Screw Amps to Sub Box? Bad?« » Reply  Edit

Should I make an amp rack or can I strap my amps to my sub box? I've heard that the vibrations from the sub could damage the amp long term is this true?

People do it all the time.

I used to do it all the time when I worked at Best Buy.

It won't cause any problems.

However, if someone was to break in & steal your sub box, they've got your amps, too.

agreed^^
package deal for the thieves ftl its probably the most convenient way to install your setup, but it is the most convenient way for someone to steal everything. i learned this the hard way

Mounting an amp to a sub box can damage the amp, it depends on a few things, if you have a cheap "unbraced" box, [lots of flex] and you have a cheap amp, [poor construction/assembly] and you crank the bass, then yes, you can do damage.

However, I have often mounted amps to sub cabinets without any problems.

As mentioned, it makes stealing the amp very easy.

Mount it under the pass. seat if it will fit. 94

how bout mounting it to the back of your back seats? even though its still next to the sub for the thieves to see, its not in contact with the sub so no damage done. does that sound like a ligit thing to do?
mines currently just sitting on the floor of the trunk, i been lazy lately to mount it anywhere :/

IMO the best route is hidden; with the use of fans and some fabrication a lot of places can be used. Side of trunk, spare tire well, side wall of back seats, but of course it depends on size. It's not to hard to create a false panel with wood and carpet.
