I'm looking at the same thing on my 97 SH, I just picked up a JRSC and really want to put it on, but the only problem I have is that my car has about 215,000. If I slap the JRSC, the motor probably going to last only a couple month. So my question is when the most dies, what usually goes out first..? If I was going to rebuild it what should I be looking at to replace, because the SH has a different block it would be expensive to find the motor, and rebuilding the head I THINK would be a better option. Also, a noob question does block last a longtime...?

are you wanting to BUILD the motor with aftermarket parts or do you want to do a stock rebuild? If just a stock rebuild, go onto a honda online wholesaler and make a list of parts needed and price it out. gaskets, seals, bearings, rings, water pump, oil pump...etc

If you are goign with FI i would recommend rebuilding the block and head with aftermarket parts. Given the amount of miles you have on your car, i dont believe your car will last long with the supercharger on it. With that being said, the price to rebuild the block could vary depeding on what you do. If you want to sleeve it put new pistions rods bearings etc. the block alone would probably cost 3g's give or take some. If you go with the FI route your always looking at alot of money to get your car running right. You should do some more research before doing anything though.

I'm currently rebuilding my other H22A1. I post only the basic stuff. These are only charges by a machine shop : Jet spray clean block & head ....................................$80 Hone cylinder walls (these were in good shape)...........$50 valves & seats job ( on high milage head you might need some or all valve guides or even new valves, mine was JDM with low miles)....................................................................$80 resurface head .......................................................$40 And here some of the parts I bought: ACL maine & rod bearings ( Honda stuff is more of course) ............................................................................$100 Piston rings OEM....................................................$160 Head gasket OEM....................................................$75 I don't have all receipts for gaskets but OEM is pricey. So you'd be in $1000 mostly in parts before you know it. Now if the cilinder walls got deeper scars you will need to spend more money on oversize pistons and boring/honing the wals. The labor depends how much the shop is charging for an hour. I think it would take around 3-4 full working days of labor to pull/install/ assembly the motor.

If thats the case, then should I just get a Type S motor that would cost about 3 grand. I've done research before and considered going this route, but hearing people telling me that you have to do extensive modification I was afraid to go that way. If anyone with a Type S motor can tell me if it was worth it..? Thanks.!

Yeah, if you've got a working motor already, you can build a better motor for 3G's than what's in the type s. The only major differences performance-wise are the pistons and the cams. AND if you don't have an SH then you have to do some fabbing to get it to work with base model tranny; it's not a straight swap.

Aright so for the best bang for the buck, I should stick with rebuilding my motor, which I have a SH, what would be an ideal rebuild for JRSC setup..?

The SH has an h22a4, just like all the rest.

Dude, the SH block IS A DIFFERENT CASTING, really. The block is physically different to account for the ATTS unit.

If the SH Block is totally different from the Base model, then I would not be able to get an H22a4 and just swap it out. It would have to be a specific SH motor, or SH Block..? In the case if I were to rebuild my engine what would be the primary parts that fail most on a H22..? and if possible what are the parts that are strong enough that I wouldn't necessarily really need to replace..? Thanks..!
