  2005 CRV blower motor won't turn on - sometimes« » Reply  Edit

We have a 2005 CRV. For the past month we have had an inconsistent problem where the blower just won't turn on but then clicks on later if we go over a bump or just during normal driving. After that it stays on until we turn it (or the car) off.

Note that the part I'm referencing corresponds to the "heater motor" in the fuse box (which I've already checked) and not the condenser fan which works.

We took it to the shop and they couldn't reproduce the problem.

I was lucky enough to have it stop working for me today and I went at it checking wiring, fuses, etc.. The car is perfectly quiet when I change the blower speed (and I can hear the motor (EDIT: small servo, not blower motor) while changing temperature). Everything looks fine behind the glove box and the filter is nearly clean (I replaced it about a year back). Underneath the glove box is clear too but I discovered that tapping the bottom of the blower motor while it is turned on (but not working) causes it to turn on. I was able to do this twice. It also has a faint sound that, to my untrained ear, is indicative of a struggling fan... but maybe I'm imagining that.

I tried jiggling wires / connectors in that area with no luck in starting or stopping the fan while it was on.

Two last points...
1.) We had a bad side impact accident 2 years back that may or may not have hit the blower motor (I don't remember).
2.) We had mice / rats 2 months back that were systematically eradicated after they chewed through a wiring harness in the engine compartment. No evidence of mice in the cabin though.

So...

Is it possible that the blower motor is faulty? Could it be something that is serviceable either by me taking the component out and cleaning it or by a shop doing something similar?

After shelling out $85 for "diagnostic work" where they didn't find anything I'm not too thrilled about the concept of trying the shop again. Then again if the motor's busted I may not have a choice.

Maybe I could see if the accident repair place worked on that motor or the area around it?

I'm open to any advice. My wife's taking this opportunity to request a new car (ridiculous since I still have a 2003 Civic) and I'm hoping to eliminate the air conditioner as an excuse.

THANKS!

sounds like you simply have a bad blower fan motor,

go purchase one (OEM) and replace it yourself.

Years ago I had an Integra blower motor that worked intermittently and it turned out to be the blower motor resistor that needed replacing.
