Honda/ Acura discontinue the pr3 vtec oil pumps« » Reply  Edit

We called Honda to order a 95 Del Sol DOHC vtec oil pump and when it got here it had an Integra ls part number on it. So we called and they told us that the pr3 vtec oil pump is discontinued and this is the replacement. So I tell them, the ls will not work for what we need and send it back. I then called Acura and ordered a 95 gsr oil pump and when it gets here same deal so at this point our builder takes a used b18c oil pump apart and a used ls oil pump apart to show me the difference. The ls has a thinner but bigger gear more prone to braking and the b18c had a thicker yet smaller gear inside looks a lot stronger. now we took the new ls pump apart (((part number 15100-pr4-ao3))) and found out what they did. They put the gsr gear in the ls oil pump, so now this will be the new part number, we will be getting from now on. I just made this post to inform the ht members so when you guys order your oil pump and they come with the ls part number you know you got the right pump and don’t have to waste time calling Honda or Acura to find out what the deal is.

I thought It has always been like that? All the OBD2 LS oil pumps are the same thing as GSR's.

Awesome post Robert! Now we just need a few more informative posts like these around here.

im with using the obd-2 pump. to my knowledge its only slightly different because of the belt cover and mounts for the crank sensor. robert try opening up one of those and compare it to the LS pump.
for good info.

we do use the obd2 pumps for obd2 cars its just if we use them on a obd 1 car our customers complain that they have to modify their covers, so with this one you don't have to do anything.

ive had awesome luck with the obd2 gsr pumps, with pro drive gears, with some Jim Stewart modifications. always had awesome oil pressure, and could run at over 800 horsepower for 2 seasons on the same motor/oil pump.

good info non the less

this info is more for the guys that are going to just run stock oil pumps. you can make a ton of power with a stock oil pump, eggm ran a stock oil pump on her car and ran in the 7s . why spend an extra 50 bucks? when you can just buy the right oil pump for you year motor because every penny counts when building a motor

Not to take this thread too off topic, but of the people that have broken oem oil pumps, has the prodrive gear been the solution? There are guys out here that have broken multiple oem pump gears and are getting tired of it..

the only pro drive gear i have seen break was an H22 that had the balance shafts removed and did not do it properly.

ive used the pro drive gears for years and never had a problem with them. we generally try to use them on anything thats going to make more than 750 or so.

ive seen plenty of people, myself included have good luck with the oem stuff.....but ive also seen a lot of people have problems with it. the gears are so cheap, why risk it.

thats also another thing people dont maintenance. eggum ran a stock oil pump, but they obviously service their stuff. a lot of people think that because she did it, that they can do it on their 200k mile oil pump.

The question is, did she replace her pump every race?

no she did not. come on guys stop thread jacking. aftermarket gears have nothing to do with this post. i made the post to inform ht members about the discontinued pr3 oil pumps and to let ht members know that the new ls oil pumps are the same.
