NEW HELLA BULBS - DON'T BUY THEM« » Reply  Edit

I have just gone thru my third HELLA cool blue 100/80 bulb in a little over 4 months, and could not be less pleased with this. The really sad part is their lighting power was great, but much like piaa's that don't last, I am not willing to sacrifice bulb life for great lighting power.

I was going to go HID retro, but I like good lighting, and HID's don't work worth poo in stock housings.

Oh and just for reference, I have completely upgraded my lighting circuit in my 95 civic.

10guage power and ground to every beam, 30 amp fuses on every beam, 1 relay per beam( hella of course) so that is not the problem, but on a side note, the lighting power got noticeably better once the wiring was upgraded.

Just a heads up for anyone looking for new bulbs.

If you were going to do a true retrofit, you would've realized that it'd be waaaaaay better than any cheap hyper white bulb.

No offense, but I honestly don't understand why you would ever expect a 100/80 watt bulb to last. Their rated life is less than half of a standard wattage bulb, and they are not street legal.

I would expect any bulb to last more than a month and a half....I don't care what brand it is... But hella, cmon they arent liteglow here, they are the leaders in lighting technology.

And as for the retrofit, I want both hi and lo beams, and properly focused lighting patterns and short of doing a Retro from another car, there is now way to get that. And I don't want the ridiculous glare caused by putting HID bulbs into a fcatory housing. Also I bought Hella for a reason, I would never use CHEAP hyper bulbs in my car. And for that matter I have done a couple retros and I do realise the light output they can give, I wanted to get the maximum output possible from an H4 setup.

And yes I do realise 100 80's are not legal, but then again neither is HID, or retrofitting any other cars headlight into my housing, and I am one of the few people who actually aim their headlights after installing bulbs, so I was sure to be very concious about oncoming glare, and proper beam placement on the road.

Anyways this was just a heads up for anyone that was looking to upgrade their bulbs that I do not recomend these ones. '

yes you can have high/low beam lighting with a retrofit. You just need to know what type of Bi-xenon projectors you're wanting retrofitted into your lights. A retrofit is not using a cheap PnP kit in stock halogen housings. A true retrofit is when you take a projector from some other housing (ex. FX, TL's, ZKW's, E55', ect. ect.) and put them into a pair of housings that don't come with them. This will give you a even light output onto the street like it's suppose to be instead of glare and hot spots that a PnP kit gives out....

I realise that, I actually said that in my second paragraph...Thanks though I was just trying to get good lighting output from the H4 setup...I can't afford to spend the 500 odd dollars to retro a hig lo HID setup from another car right now.

I can get you an E46 Bi-xenon setup for much less than that. I have some e46's sitting in my garage right now just taking up space if you're interested in those
