dont u know graf designs these things? he's put the workers through more hell than noobs on honda-tech/s2000 have gone through for not meeting his standards.

not true at all... this is something that could be done... im pretty sure the track distance is taken from the centerline of the course... it all depends on the course... ive wondered this as well for long distance driving... im going to test out my theory... next time i go down to school, ill record my distance traveled... and then the next time ill try and stay in the inside lane on all the turns and curves...

it wont be a perfect straight line as you put it, it will be the "shortest" line within the track. so if its true that the track is meassured at the center of the lane, then by staying at the "inner" most position of the center of the track will do... sorry if i lost you, i'll draw a pic later after work...

i guess you didnt read my post above you... i was going to do a drawing as well... if you could give me an arial of the track with a key, i could def calculate the "shortest" distance...

So in any given track, the perfect line is the shortest distance? Mathematically, you will get the fastest time going the shortest distance.

yes and no... some walls can have a higher slope which would net greater speeds through turns which will net better lap times... if your statement was the case, no body would pass on the outside...

think of nascar and the oval tracks they use. now if you follow geometry you'll know that the outer perimeter is farther away from the center of the track(no shitt) and the farther away from the center of the track the longest a distance you have to travel compared to those on the inside lane to complete a full circle. so if you were to travel on the outer lane and take 100 laps, your distance traveled will be more than those who did 100 laps on the inner lane. so try to think about the "inner" lane when on a road course and you can see how a 5miles track can be completed in 4.9miles.

arc = speedThe larger the arc the faster you can go.
Shorter arcs slow you down. The extreme is a city block intersection where you turn right. It's shorter than going wide and turning left but, you can make better time going faster and wider.
