Congrats. You now have to buff all these little scratches out of your clear. A lot of people don't know this, but you can't clay a dirty car and you can't clay it while you're washing it either, for the same reason.
The water that was on your car while you were washing it was contaminated with the dirt you trying to remove in the first place. The clay bar picks up this dirt and it turns into a piece of sand paper. Do the math.
Be glad you only did your front hood. Just imagine if you did all the hoods on your car.

BTW, Soap and Water is fine as a replacement for Instant Detailer...That's what I use because it's considerably less. Just use a good quality Auto soap (NOT dish soap, unless you are looking to strip your wax) along with some filtered water. All this after you have already thoroughly cleaned the car. The wash step and clay bar step are not to be combined!

Cliffs Notes: Wash & Dry, Clay Bar & Spray Bottle of Soap & Water, Polish, Wax (Panel at a time) for the best results IMO. Use good quality products with Microfiber towels.
