cant afford to fill up my civic« » Reply  Edit

okay I live a little less then 9 miles from work so Im building this to attempt to take me to and from work. if it works ill save a lot of money!

i currently pay $210 a month for insurance and probably another 100-200 in gas a month.
so in theory i can save well over $300 if i get this and other little projects like it going.

heres what im working with...

it wouldnt let me load a picture of how i plan to send power to the wheels, but basically what im gonna do is modify a bike chain and put the gears from the free wheel on the skateboard wheel and also around that steel shaft on the weed wacker engine

25cc of raw power

if it works it will be slow but still kinda sweet

9 miles is awefully far on a motorized skateboard. good luck tho!

I would probably go the route of a Moped as well, but even then 9 miles is a fair amount of distance for twice a day.

The whole idea behind the project is im getting everything for free. If you guys have scooters/mopeds to give away id be more then happy to accept!

I used to have a 91 dx sedan. gieco wanted $250 a month for insurence when I bought the car for $100 I'm no rocket scientist, but I felt it was pretty unreasonable so i sold off the car and kept the turbo civic under my parents name and I pay $210 a month now. The civic is also for sale now. The goal here is to get rid of all my silly little expenses

I made basically the same setup, the weedeater motor doesnt have enough torque, you need a chain saw motor.

I've been suspicious of that, however i got all of the materials for free so even if it doesnt work at least its been a fun little project. I'll have to put the word out and see if i can get a chain saw motor.

thats a better idea, the ride will be more comfortable, safer and you could prolly have multiple speeds if you got a mountain bike to work.

You really need to check out better insurance comapnies. I pay 250+ for two vehicles. PLus my gas bill is probably 50+ every couple of weeks and I drive400miles in that time. That is with an accord. What kind of mileage are you getting? My turbo Civic was getting 30mpg in town.

I've never once been on a skateboard and thought, "hey, this thing needs more speed."

Your hospital bills from eating shit when you hit a pebble a mile or two down the road will make insurance bills seem like pocket change.

Get a cheap 10spd road bike. Atleast it will have brakes to stop you. Your going to get really tired standing up for 9 miles. Have you ever had speed wobbles on a skateboard???

I put a two stroke snow blower motor on a bike years ago.....that shit ripped!!!

but i'm with the others....re think the skateboard thing, say it goes 30mph (which i doubt it will, maybe i d k) and your trips is 9 miles, thats about 20 mins there and back.....kind of a long time to be on a skate board

gee wiz so ill start by saying the project is on hold till i get a mountain bike donated. and Yes the next project is a bicycle/minibike combination. I am finding out if i can get a minibike for free tomarrow and ill keep you folks posted.

race egr: pm me with the skateboard stuff you have laying around
ek4: its gonna be slow and it has those big 4-5 inch tires
nick: ineed whats left of your teg, im going to turn it into a boat
turboteener: i know i need to find a better insurence company, possibly statefarm for the next one
ickyhonda: eww to expensive, badass idea tho
richieheminway: it will be slower then when i push. im not trying to lose any of my precious fat.
dazedandconfused: its a longboard and sits about 6 inches off the ground aka. perfect for kick flips and halfpipe action
justinolsen: speed isnt a problem im worried about having
mrgsr: that sounds like a sweet bike.

so like i said project is on hold till i get my mits on a mountain bike, or some other bikes. thanks for looking friends!
