"15, 16"? You mean 1.5, 1.6? That threw me off for a bit. No, it's not going to matter whether you run a P06 or a P28. They're both going to seem to run good. The P28 will throw VTEC codes.But the calibration between the OBD1 and OBD2 D-series engines is radically different. The OBD2 heads are much more efficient and make power in lower RPMs than the OBD1 engines. So the ignition timing advance is much less and the VE table peaks lower. What this amounts to is that your engine will run fine but the tune is not optimal. Power and economy will be less than the stock motor with the stock ECU.
So in short, the difference in the calibrations between the P06 and P28 is much less* than the difference between them both and the OBD2 ECUs.
*since VTEC is not a factor in the case of your D16Y7
