Hypothetically if you were to get a pnp kit, There all the same crap. No quality control in aftermarket hid, Hit or miss. And your not doing any good putting HID in your halogen housing ither. It's all look with no lighting performance.

they all have the same parts as the chinese manufacturing company sells nationwide for cheap due to the cheapass labor. All the resellers and dealers change is the label with the name of their company on them. That's all there's to it. They all have the same components.

Taken straight from HID planet."We have indeed, bottled fire HID kits are illegal in the USA because of DOT says so. Period. Good or bad, we start from there. Standard 108 says that you can not put a HID bulb in an headlight which was meant for a halogen housing. One reflector is made for a thin strip of tungsten, and the other an arc tube which is round. The modern free form reflector/projector is designed to a tight enough standard that even if the arc tube is in the exact same spot as filament bulb, there will be stray light, hot spots etc... That is their reasoning, and we do not debate that because they make the laws.
What this means for you is that HID Kits are a black market. DOT will shut down any US importer of HID kits large enough to be worth the effort. They have ruled repeatedly that "off road" or "show only" kits are still illegal, you MUST have a valid "on road" use in order to legally import a product for US vehicles. What ends up happening is you have literally thousands of different manufacturers producing kits for a limited time, changing names, brands products etc... may be the same company, may not be, but that limits your recourse if the kit goes bad etc... typically 6 months is the limit you will see a new brand on the market. The challenge that these small manufacturers have are 2 fold, and will explain why a lot of people do not reccomend them. "

after reading all your guys posts seem like getting after market HIDs may damage my headlight housing and also give me more reason to get pulled over. i'll have to consider if it's still worth it to get a kit, even if it's only a 6k kit.

Man don't listen to the dramatic people have have responded to your question. If you properly retrofit your headlight then buy whatever HID kit you want. Ebay is a good source but you buy from them usually with no warranty. There are many reputable sites selling HID kits, I recommend theretrofitsource.com they are a reputable company, Honda Tuning Magazine even did a Tech article with their products. Don't listen to the drama queens which will remain unnamed. Do a retro do it right and get a kit.

LOL german or chinese or japanese kits that are really cheap on ebay are practically rebranded kits from one single company. Everything is just to make profit.Bulb intensity depends on the bulbs and/or ballasts too. A ballast giving the bulb less wattage will result in bad output. A ballast giving alot of wattage will result in the ballast drawing too many amps. Too many amps for your car electrical wiring is bad
