Which sohc block?« » Reply  Edit

I working on a build for the summer and I'm trying to figure out which block to get, ZC or z6? I have a built z6 head and will be using 75.5mm 9:1 wiesco's and h-beam eagles. I tried a search to see if this had already been discussed (as I'm sure it has), but nothing with any relevance popped up. I'm shooting for ~400 whp with the rev limiter set around 8500-9000.

pretty high rpm goal for a SOHC...

id go for the z6, cheaper and easier to get, other than that they are basicly the same

unless ur talking about a D15b, but then id still go z6. (and they are still very similar as well)

8500 - 9000? What CAM are you planning, whose doing the epic headwork, and what gearing are you using to optimize this?

I'm using a 59300, stage 2 p&p z6 head by performance porting, and full supertech valvetrain. I have a soon to be heat treated and rebuilt y8 tranny that i'm trying to find an lsd for.
I've been looking for a z6 block for a good while now with no luck, but I found a ZC block for next to nothing and wanted to know if there are any significant differences or little pain in the ass differences between the two.

So I decided to hold off for the z6, thanks a lot guys.
From reading I know that stock blocks are good for around 400-500whp, if darton replacement sleeves are better than stock, around what whp are they good for?

it's a friggin pipe. if you ask me... there's no difference. Unless the AEM's have super sexy vagina juice coated along the inside which acts as a pussy magnet, if not then they're both just pipes, round and hollow, same exact thing.

The a6 block has thicker walls. For sure. Its the same block that full race used when they did there sohc build for pinks.

some of the a6, are suppose to have a stronger main cap assembly, other than that the fan switch sensor is on the back of the block, that is all i can think of.
