  6000k HIDs....« » Reply  Edit

What all would I need for a 6000k HID kit to work on my 00 CTR Headlights? I have no idea about any of this stuff, but I believe it was 6000k I say on my buddies eg cause they were the prefect white with a slight shade of blue. But anyways what do I need for these to work just the HID kit or anything special? Where is the best place to order them from?

IIRC, the CTR headlights do not have the stock reflection shield? If so, you would blind oncoming traffic and they would be PISSED.

Personally, I do not recommend it. The reason is that your reflectors are designed for the output and filament location of a halogen bulb. When you put a HID bulb in there, the focal point will be off by a few mm (which in respect to the size of the bulb could be as much as 15% off). You might have noticed that when you use your lo beams, only the top part of the reflector is illuminated. This is the part of the reflector that shines light downward. When you use high beams, it is mainly the lower and some of the upper part that is illuminated, throwing more light upward. By putting in a HID bulb, you will be hitting the bottom part of the reflector with significant amounts of light, which will blind oncoming traffic.

One thing you can do (the route i recommend if a retrofit is not an option) is to get shields called Casper Shields (check ebay, they are usually everywhere) and d2r bulbs. The shield will block most of the light from hitting the bottom portion of the reflector.

Do the shields make a pretty good impact?

Shields help, but the best way is to retro fit so you wont blind everyone

yes they are real CTRs, I just want that crisp light blue color from my headlights. so i need to look into a sheild for it? will it effect the brightest or color of the light or just not blind people with the same effect of HIDs?

The shield will not effect brightness at all. its just a piece of metal that goes below the capsule to prevent any light from hitting the bottom of the reflector. you still get light off the top of the reflector where it needs to be. if you look at a car that came with reflector hids from the factory, you will notice the same, that there is only light at the top of the reflector. as for color, i wouldnt go any higher than about 5000k. 4300k-ish is gonna be your brightest, and after about 6000k you start losing lm fast.

well i dont know what came with my ctr's cause there in a box in the back of my shop right now, waiting on my car to get painted before i put them on. but as for the shields i understand what your saying about the shield. is the 5k HIDs still a bluish tint? cause i seen a civic the other day with really bright HIDs with a slight blue tint and i loved it. but i was told they were 6k but i really dont know, i just want that look and better headlights.

eBay is fine... just look at the seller's past history.

pnp kits are basically all the same, most of them are made in china or tiawan.. its just cheaper.

if you buy a pnp kit on ebay, go for the cheapest one, from a good seller - don't expect much customer support afterwards... they are mass volume sellers, and thats how they make their money..

if you want customer support, you have to pay for it... then get it from one of the sponsors here on ht.

for shields, ebay them, or they should come with the kit... depends on the kit.

if your ctr housings are hid housings.... then try and get a d2r bulb...

more than likely, it still wont help, and you are better off doing a retrofit.

i ordered so many kits from ebay and none of them gave me a problem. each kit i buy, i end end up selling them to people that really want it. look, if my ebay kit goes, i'll just get mccullochs hid kit. so far, my hid kit works fine. didn't burn my oem harness or flicker on me. i have 6k and it doesnt blind on coming traffic. good thing the usdm dc integras come with projectors.

McCulloch uses the same crap as your ebay kits. All you're buying is the brand name
