This thread will explain the Trial User membership and features of the site such as the messaging system.

If anyone else has any other suggestions for other things I should add to this thread, let me know.

I'm a Restricted Trial User. What does that mean? Why can't I post in certain places or PM anyone?

As a new member to Honda-Tech.com, you will originally be labeled as a "trial member" ("trial user" or "restricted trial user").

A trial user can receive PM/IMs from other members, but cannot send PM/IMs to anyone.

You also will not be able to post in the Honda-Tech MarketPlace, Appearance / Cosmetic or any of the Community Forums.

Trial users are also restricted to only being able to make five posts per day.

How long will it be until I'm an Unrestricted User?

In order to no longer be a trial user and become an Unrestricted User, you must be a member for at least one week and make at least one post.

Please wait until your trial membership has run it's course. Refrain from making any threads asking why you are a trial member or why you can't post in a forum. As soon as your trial membership is over, you can make any classified ads you might want to make and any inquiries into buying any products you see in the MarketPlace or message anyone you would like to message. The summary above should be able to clarify anything you need to know about being a trial user. If you have any questions, please post them in this thread instead of making your own thread.

If you have been a member for more than a week AND have posted at least one time at least one day before now, but you're still listed as a trial user, please go to the top right corner of any section and click on "Forum Stats". This page includes a list of the moderators of that forum. If you view the profiles of the moderators, some will have an email address or an instant message name listed in their profile. If you can manage to get a hold of them, I'm sure they'd be able to help you out.

I'm still a Trial User even though I've been a member for longer than the one week restricted time period. What happened?

You can be a trial user forever as long as you do not make at least one post. Reply to any thread in one of the model specific forums and you should immediately become an Unrestricted User.

DO NOT message a moderator or make a thread if you are still a Trial User after this amount of time. The moderators do not manually make every member an Unrestricted User. The system is purely automated and will make you an Unrestricted User soon enough.

How do I instant message (IM) or private message (PM) someone?

On Honda-Tech private messages and instant messages are the same thing. In order to message someone, click this icon under their avatar: .

The person you have messaged will be able to view their message as soon as they load a new page on the site. If the other person is not online at the time that you message them, they will get the message the next time that the load a new page on the site.

I've found a post that is offensive / I've found a post that does not belong where it is posted, What should I do?

The icon is there so you can report posts. If you see an abusive or offensive post in a thread, click this button and shortly explain the problem in the space given. A moderator will get this message and take care of the problem. This button is also useful for calling attention to threads that are in the wrong section, such as for sale threads (which should be in the MarketPlace) or photo threads (which shoudl be in the correct section of Appearance/Cosmetic).

This is a helpful post. How can I save this information?

The icon is there so that you can save any post that you'd like. When you click this icon, you will be given the option to put that post in different folders

I want to post a For Sale / Want To Buy / Want To Trade thread. Should I do that here?

As long as you're a trial member, please refrain from posting any for sale, want to buy or want to trade threads. You're currently restricted from posting in the MarketPlace, where those threads belong, and those threads do not belong in this section either.

Is there anything I should think of or do before I make a new thread?

Before you start a thread, search the site for answers. Remember to try the different search options (Topic Titles / Post Bodies and then Recent Content / Archived Content).

If it turns out that you still need to make a thread, PLEASE remember to include what kind of car you're talking about (year, trim, body, engine if swapped). It's very difficult to help someone when they have not told us what kind of car we're being asked about.

Also, try to refrain from naming your threads with titles similar to these: "question", "?", "my civic", etc. Try to title your thread to attach the attention of the people who would be able to answer your question. This doesn't mean to call your thread, "NOFX, need help". This means you need to name your thread according to the issue you're having. Something like, "power steering making loud sounds" as compared with just "problem".
